GLBT panel speaks about tolerance, discrimination issues

In the spirit of their history month, members involved with the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Student Support Services met Monday evening at the Indiana Memorial Union to hear the stories of three GLBT pioneers within the IU community.

Arrests lead to removal of 4 IU swim team members

Four members of the IU swimming and diving team were removed from the squad after being arrested over the weekend, said Pete Rhoda, the director of Athletic Media Relations. Rhoda would not comment further on the issue.

Baron Hill, former Senator Bayh speak to IU College Democrats

Democratic candidate for Indiana's 9th District, Baron Hill, spoke to members of the Indiana Public Interest Research Group and the IU College Democrats about environmental issues Tuesday night. Hill reiterated his position on energy independence, saying that if elected to the House, he will work to invest money into ethanol and biodiesel, as well as offer tax incentives for buyers and sellers of hybrid cars.

Iraqi leaders will create timeline to reduce violence

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- U.S. officials said Tuesday that Iraqi leaders have agreed to develop a timeline by the end of the year for progress in stabilizing Iraq, and Iraqi forces should be able to take full control of security in the country in the next 12 to 18 months with "some level" of American support.

260,000 patients' data mishandled

INDIANAPOLIS -- A hospital system has started notifying at least 260,000 patients of its Indiana and Illinois hospitals that a medical records contractor has lost compact discs containing their Social Security numbers and other personal information.

Documentary celebrates Beaux Arts 50th anniversary

In an interview for the Indiana Daily Student two years ago, Menahem Pressler, distinguished professor of piano for the IU Jacobs School of Music, said he did not expect his chamber music ensemble to have much longevity. "I expected it to last a week to make a record," Pressler said.
