MINNEAPOLIS -- With a chance to become bowl eligible with a win Saturday, the IU football team fell 63-26 at Minnesota. \nThe Hoosiers' next chance to claim their sixth win will be this weekend at Memorial Stadium when IU hosts No. 2 Michigan.\nWith the IU offense unable to get into rhythm, Minnesota struck first, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter, two in the air and one on the ground.\nDown 21-0 in the opening minutes of the second quarter, freshman quarterback Kellen Lewis threw two interceptions. Both turnovers led to Golden Gopher touchdowns, extending Minnesota's lead to 35-0.\nThe Hoosiers got on the board with just under seven minutes in the second quarter when Lewis found freshman running back Demetrius McCray streaking down the sideline for a 43-yard touchdown strike.\nAs the quarter wound down, the Hoosiers had one more chance to score, getting into Minnesota territory but turned the ball over on downs.\nMinnesota sophomore kicker Jason Giannini missed a field goal with just 29 second remaining in the half holding the score at 35-7 heading into the half.\nSenior quarterback Bryan Cupito finished the first 17-for-26 for 304 yards and three touchdowns.\nOn its first drive of the second half, IU scored its second touchdown of the day when Lewis hit an open James Hardy for the 48-yard score. Sophomore kicker Austin Starr missed the PAT making the score 35-13 in Minnesota's favor.\nAfter another Golden Gopher score, IU capped off an eight-minute drive with a two-yard run from McCray, cutting the deficit to 22 points with 2:17 left in the third.\nMinnesota would score again to counter the Hoosier offensive effort. McCray would rack up his third touchdown of the day -- two receiving and one rushing -- when Lewis found him in the end zone for a 10-yard score. IU's two-point conversion was no good.\nThe Golden Gophers notched two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter on their way to their first Big Ten victory of the year. Minnesota is now 1-5 in Big Ten play.\nIndiana dropped back to 5-5 with two games left on its schedule.
