Hoosiers sweep Big Ten awards

Hoosier takes Player of the Year; two named to first-team All-Big Ten

Before the Hoosiers began their quest for their 11th Big Ten Tournament title, six members of the team were honored at the Big Ten soccer awards banquet on Thursday. \nSenior midfielder Josh Tudela earned Big Ten Player of the Year honors and was named as a member of the All-Big Ten first team. On the season, Tudela has scored three goals and one assist in a defensive midfield role for the No. 10 Hoosiers.\nSenior midfielder John Michael Hayden joined Tudela on the first team. Junior defender Greg Stevning was named to the second team All-Big Ten.\nFreshman Darren Yeagle was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and despite missing four games with mononucleosis he led the Hoosiers with six goals. Midfielder Eric Alexander and defender Ofori Sarkodie joined Yeagle on the Big Ten All-Freshman team.\nIU coach Mike Freitag earned his first Big Ten Coach of the Year award after guiding the Hoosiers to another Big Ten regular season title.\n"I'm very proud of our team. It was nice for our players to be recognized by the Big Ten," Freitag said in a statement. "I am very happy for Josh (Tudela) and Darren (Yeagle) and their big awards, and I'm proud of all of the players. Only so many can be recognized, but everything we've done this year has been a team effort"
