ONLINE ONLY: September: Hollywood’s armpit?

·

Ah, September. In many ways its arrival brings joy to people each year for three reasons: cooler weather, football and the return of quality television. While that’s great for those people, September typically isn’t kind to moviegoers. For those who follow films and release dates closely, it’s common knowledge that September is nothing more than a wasteland.

Lending a helping hand

·

In the back of a green van on the east side of Bloomington, Jonathan Hossler squeals and laughs with excitement, rocking back and forth in his seat. As the van stops at its first home on the route, the tall and skinny autistic 21-year-old is coaxed out of the van with a cloth bag – the words “Hand ‘n Hand” printed across it. His two supervisors remind him it’s time to do his work and collect the awaiting food on the doorstep – food that provides 5 percent of Bloomington’s Community Kitchen’s total donations.

·

Take the most raucous concert you’ve ever seen. Then double the people, triple the alcohol and add trucks, grills and cornhole amidst a sea of red and white T-shirts, some of them appropriately reading, “We don’t have football games, we have tailgates.”

·

The NCAA tournament has been a goal for the women’s soccer team the last three years, but the Hoosiers have always come up short. This year’s senior class is trying to change that.

Rushing it through committee

·

How many Indiana Hoosiers does it take to put together a consistent running game? The answer is a lot more complex than the light bulb version of that question. Not every Hoosier team can have an Anthony Thompson or Antwaan Randle El, so many teams find themselves turning to the running-back-by-committee approach.

Members of the volleyball team practice Thursday at Assembly Hall.
