In a visit to Allison Transmission during Indianapolis Friday, May 6, President Barack Obama strongly encouraged the increased development of hybrid energy technology across the country. So where does Indiana fit into this plan to reduce our dependence on oil as an energy source? How much progress have we made when it comes to alternative and hybrid energy sources?

The IU softball team split its weekend series with Northwestern, falling 4-1 in the second game Sunday and putting a stop to the Hoosiers’ nation-leading 15-game win streak.

Bloomington residents pay the price at the pump

Bloomington drivers are paying the most at the pump in the state of Indiana. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel May 8 was $4.21 — higher than anywhere else in the state — according to data compiled daily by AAA.

Cell phones to be protected under Do-not-call registry

A new bill passed unanimously by the Indiana General Assembly would allow cell phone users to place their phone numbers on the state’s do-not-call registry to avoid telemarketing calls. A similar registry is already in place for landline phones.

Parts of HPER will be closed this summer

The Wildermuth Intramural Center of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building will be closed from May 9 to Aug. 15 as the building’s roof undergoes repairs.

Obama visited the Indianapolis transmission plant to encourage the production of alternative fuel sources — specifically hybrid technology. Guests included Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and U.S. Congressman André Carson, D-7th District.
