Gunner Kiel is the top-ranked pro-style quarterback in the country for the 2012 recruiting class, according to Rivals.com. And on July 27, he committed to the IU football team while visiting the campus with his family.

Lugar backs prioritizing payments if U.S. defaults

Indiana’s senior U.S. senator, Richard Lugar, announced he is in support of legislation that would prioritize U.S. government payments in the event of a default on U.S. debt.

Man strikes girlfriend’s dog, kills it

A dog lost its life after its caretaker hit it on the head Tuesday, July 26. Bloomington police officers were called by Monroe county animal control officers to a veterinary clinic on Morningside Drive after the veterinarian reported a dog who had been hit had died.

According to an article from CNN.com, there is $10.4 billion in federal funds used by the states for higher education that could potentially dry up if there is no deal made by Aug. 2. That’s money used for Pell Grants and subsidizing loans for students.
