ATLANTA -- Ninety-five years of frustration. Ninety-five years of ridicule. Put it all to rest. The Chicago Cubs are postseason winners. Kerry Wood pitched another dominating game and Aramis Ramirez began the celebration with a mammoth home run, pushing the Cubs past Atlanta 5-1 Sunday night for their first postseason victory since the 1908 World Series. The franchise that endured the College of Coaches and the curse of a goat moves on to play Florida in the NL championship series. Game 1 is Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.

Broncos and Chiefs collide in battle of unbeatens

·

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- There's a lot more to Sunday's AFC West matchup than a mere showdown between unbeaten teams going head-to-head for first place. Denver (4-0) versus Kansas City (4-0) also features the highest-scoring team in the NFL vs. point-producer No. 4; a kick returner on a historic hot streak; and a new Broncos quarterback whose stats could bring John Elway to mind.

Turnovers top Hoosier priorities

·

During the Michigan game week, forcing turnovers was the emphasis, according to senior Joe Gonzalez. And the Hoosiers accomplished that mission as they forced four in the first half but were unable to take any away from the Wolverines in the second. Gonzalez said the challenge is to carry it over to this Saturday's game against Michigan State.

Fantastic!

·

The Chicago Cubs have a long history as loveable losers of professional baseball. A team that goes nearly a century, 95 years to be exact, without winning a World Series can't argue with the label, "loser." But the loveable part is now as evident as ever.

U.S. faces toughest challenge yet

·

FOXBORO, Mass. -- Only the vagaries of the World Cup draw could conjure up a meeting of the world's top two teams in the quarterfinals. "Seems like it should be the final, doesn't it," U.S. forward Shannon MacMillan said Monday of the impending match with Norway. "It surprised us, and after (today), one of us will be going home. That's why it will be an unbelievable game with a lot of emotion." The game tonight at Gillette Stadium is the second of a doubleheader that opens with Sweden against Brazil. The Brazilians beat the Norwegians 4-1 in the first round, an upset that led to the U.S.-Norway game in the second round after the Americans swept through their group.

Hoosiers take time to give back

·

Somewhere between class, practice, homework, and everything else a student-athlete has to do, the Hoosiers find time to give something back to their community. Even though the team is halfway through the season, it has already reached out to the community three times. On Aug. 23, the team participated in the first annual Latino Summer Festival. The event gave members of the community an opportunity to meet teams Seleccion Huracan and Seleccion Hawthorne Latino, both part of the Indiana Super League, as well as other amateur soccer teams. The team also took in a part of the Latino culture when they were taught how to salsa dance. Freshman forward Megan Sterrett said she enjoys giving back to the community. "I think doing community service is great," she said. "Bloomington has supported the school and the women's soccer team so much that it's great to give back to the community."
