IU women's tennis upsets No. 10 Tennessee

She was there for the 0-7 loss in 2007, the 3-4 decision in 2008 and another 0-7 defeat last year. In her time at IU, senior captain Lindsey Stuckey had never been on the winning side of the Hoosiers’ annual tilt with the Tennessee Lady Vols. That changed Sunday.

IU takes 7-game slide to Minnesota

The Hoosier team that squeaked by the Gophers a month ago will not be the one traveling to Minneapolis this weekend. Back in January, the Hoosiers had gone through a three-game winning streak — two of those on the road — before the Gophers came to town. And it had been about two and a half weeks since IU beat Michigan on New Year’s Eve in the Big Ten opener.

Little 5 rookie week ends without a tire on track

Scheduled to begin this past Monday, the on-track rookie week activities are postponed indefinitely. With snow showers in the forecast for the weekend, Little 500 race director Pam Loebig said the on-track activities could be limited next week as well. Rookie week gives new riders an opportunity to hone racing skills, including bike exchanges and pack riding, before the veteran riders begin practice.

IU to play in Pink Zone on Sunday

Pink will take over Assembly Hall this Sunday, and no, it’s not Victoria’s Secret.   Instead, the normally cream- and crimson-clad IU squad will don the lighter color to celebrate the Hoosiers’ annual Pink Zone game. This game offers the players a chance to take on a much fiercer opponent: breast cancer.

IU coach Tom Crean stopped mid-sentence when talking about Michigan State point guard Kalin Lucas’ level of competitiveness. “There’s no question he’s a next-level player — All-American, the whole thing,” Crean said after taking a deep breath to start the declaration.

Wildcats too much for Hoosiers

The IU women’s basketball team entered Thursday’s game at Northwestern focusing not on stopping center Amy Jaeschke, but instead stopping her teammates. In a high-scoring, overtime-spanning thriller, the team could not accomplish that goal.

Hoosiers send out first pitch in 2010 against No. 23 San Diego

The IU baseball team will be tested quickly on how well it has restocked and reloaded for the 2010 season Friday. The Hoosiers open play a long way from home with a four-game series at the University of San Diego. The schedule has the Hoosiers playing one game Friday, a doubleheader Saturday and closing out the series with a single game on Sunday, all at USD’s Cunningham Stadium.

IU moving past magical Big Ten Championship ’09 season

Most collegiate coaches would consider themselves in a rebuilding stage after losing 11 letterwinners from the previous year, but not IU coach Tracy Smith. As the Hoosiers get ready to fly west to battle No. 23 San Diego for its opening weekend matchup, Smith must decide between now and conference play who’s going to fill the void left by six starting position players and two of his three starting pitchers from 2009.
