Women's basketball announces new assistant coach

Even though it’s the off-season, the women’s basketball program is making big moves. On June 27, IU acquired former University of Tulsa head coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson. She will serve under IU women’s basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack as assistant coach. She will take office on July 1.

BOSTON — Usually they’re the people behind the camera, with a single byline as their source of fame. But from June 22 to 25, sports editors from newspapers across the nation gathered in Boston for the 2011 Associated Press Sports Editors conference. The conference featured panels and workshops as well as two award ceremonies.

Ten IU track and field athletes competed this past weekend in the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet, held this year in the historic track town of Eugene, Ore., featured top competitors from around the country vying for a spot on the team that will travel to Daegu, South Korea for the World Championships at the end of August.

Crean introduces Cheaney at press conference

IU coach Tom Crean said in his inaugural coaching year, Calbert Cheaney visited IU six times. On Monday, Cheaney came back again. However this time, it will be for a longer stay.

Moor named to MLS All-Star game ballot

Former IU soccer player Drew Moor is on the 108-man ballot for the 2011 Major League Soccer All-Star game on July 27 in New York. If the defender is voted in, it would be the first time the Colorado Rapids starter would be an All-Star.

Track stars get ready for Outdoor Championships

Almost two weeks after 12 Hoosiers were named All-Americans, the IU track and field team will have a chance to defend that honor. IU will compete at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships from June 23-26 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Public holds misinformed view of lockout’s good and bad guys

Here we sit in the third month of the NFL lockout, and it seems as if not much has improved. Judging from the media scrutiny and daily reports surrounding the talks — or lack thereof — nothing really has changed since the Collective Bargaining Agreement expired.

Track team finishes top 25 in NCAA championship

IU finished the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship with nine All-Americans and nine top-10 finishes. The men finished with 11 points as a team, taking 20th place, while the women scored 13 points, taking 23rd place.

IU's Dickerson, Monar selected in MLB Draft

Dickerson, who is tied for the school's all-time home runs lead, was selected in the third round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates as a first baseman, and left-handed pitcher Monar was taken by the Washington Nationals in the draft's 12th round.

Six members of IU’s program garnered Capital One First Team Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America association, which selects honorees from collegiate track and field and cross-country teams.
