Team maintains undefeated record with sweep

The No. 60 IU men's tennis team moved to 4-0 on the season with its second consecutive doubleheader sweep. The Hoosiers won the first ever matchup against fellow in-state school IU-Purdue University Fort Wayne 7-0, and improved to 4-0 all-time against Toledo after Saturday's 6-1 win. "We have had two weekends with two matches, and I feel like it has gotten us into better tennis shape," IU coach Ken Hydinger said. "We have a number of guys that are moving up in the singles lineup from a year ago, and with these matches, I feel like they are becoming more comfortable in those positions."

The Badgers have spent more time atop the Big Ten than anyone, but evened the field this weekend when they lost in Michigan. Normally Wisconsin would be considered unbeatable at home, but North Dakota State gave everyone hope when it upset the Badgers in the Kohl Center. Kammron "Chris Rock" Taylor has joined Alando Tucker to provide an ample one-two punch on offense, but the attack has been streaky all season.

Hoosiers drop road game to Spartans

Coming off a dominating home win against Illinois last Thursday, the IU women's basketball team traveled to No. 16 Michigan State Sunday in hopes of jumping further ahead in the Big Ten standings. The Hoosiers stuck with the Spartans for most of the game and held a lead as late as 6:10 in the second half, but ultimately lost 65-59.

No. 15 Hoosiers drop weekend series to Illini, Hawkeyes

With No. 3 Illinois and No. 7 Iowa coming into Bloomington during the weekend, the IU wrestling team knew it was going to face some tough wrestlers. The No. 15 Hoosiers hoped to exploit some of the individual match-ups, but in the end those match-ups caused their first two losses of the season. The Hoosiers began the weekend falling to the Illini 26-6 Friday, then dropped their match against the Hawkeyes Sunday 30-12. In both dual meets, the Hoosiers took early advantages with wins by senior Joe Dubuque.

Hoosiers fall short in showdown with Michigan

Senior Sergiy Fesenko and sophomore Ben Hesen broke school records as the No. 11 IU men's swimming and diving team took No. 6 Michigan to the final event in a 160-140 loss Sunday at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center in Bloomington.

Swim team struggles against ranked Big Ten opponents

The No. 15 IU women's swimming and diving team split a two-day double dual meet with No. 14 Penn State and Ohio State. The Nittany Lions toppled the Hoosiers 197.5-152.5, while IU defeated host Ohio State 199-151. The split moves the Hoosiers to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in Big Ten play.

Davis says White probably out for rest of season

Sophomore forward D.J. White has very little chance of returning this season, IU coach Mike Davis told the media this weekend. "Last I heard, he's out for the season," Davis said after Friday's practice.

Hoosier tennis teams set for grueling weekend

Hoosier tennis teams set for grueling weekend

After dealing with nerves and tension in its opening match of the 2006 spring season, the No. 60 IU men's tennis team looks to sweep both matches Saturday for the second time in consecutive weekends. The Hoosiers face the Toledo Rockets, who were recently upended by No. 73 Michigan State, 6-1, on Jan. 21, and the IU-Purdue University Fort Wayne Mastodons.

Hoosier wrestlers prepare for two top 10 opponents

Redshirt freshman Andrae Hernandez has been a reliable starter for the IU wrestling team in the 133-pound division this season, jumping out to a 21-5 record, including a 9-2 record in dual competition. His backup, freshman Angel Escobedo, is a familiar face to him.

Hoosiers take it on the offensive

While struggling through a difficult 2004-05 season, the IU women's basketball team finished dead last in the Big Ten in scoring average (51.7 ppg) and field goal percentage (.352 overall). This season, under first year coach Sharon Versyp, the Hoosiers have moved up two spots into the 9-hole in the Big Ten with an average of 62.9 points per game. In comparing the two seasons, the jump in conference ranking might not seem like a major difference, but the increase in points has led to a jump in another important category -- wins. With the season barely past the halfway point, Versyp's Hoosiers have matched their win total from last season, 10, heading into tonight's game against Illinois.

IU hopes to move from middle of Big Ten pack

With one month remaining in conference play, a log jam exists in the middle of the Big Ten standings. IU, Illinois and Michigan State are deadlocked in a three-way tie for fourth place. But the Hoosiers (10-8, 4-3) could distance themselves from both teams by the end of the weekend, as they welcome Illinois to Assembly Hall Thursday, before heading to East Lansing to face Michigan State on Saturday. Looking ahead to the Big Ten tournament, IU head coach Sharon Versyp knows that winning these games will greatly affect her team's postseason chances.

Artest meets with Pacers' officials, decides he's ready to be traded

INDIANAPOLIS - Ron Artest might be headed to Sacramento after all. ESPN reported Wednesday that a deal sending the volatile Indiana Pacers forward to the Kings for sharpshooter Peja Stojakovic was back on, pending approval of Sacramento owners Gavin and Joe Maloof. The report that Artest had agreed to the deal came a day after a reportedly "imminent" trade between the teams fell apart. Artest met with Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh on Wednesday at Conseco Fieldhouse and apparently agreed to go to Sacramento.
