Kappa Alpha Theta cyclists eager to build on strong performances during Saturday’s series event

·

For junior Ali McCormick and her Kappa Alpha Theta teammates, being the best isn’t a goal. It’s their only option. But the women who call Woodlawn home haven’t crossed the finish line first at the Little 500 since 2003. It’s the longest streak for the four-time champs since 1999, when the women failed to win in their fourth consecutive race.

IU’s All-American

·

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – IU recruit Eric Gordon, considered by many to be the top high school basketball player in the country, entered Wednesday night’s McDonald’s All-American game with high expectations from fans and media alike. After all, the Indianapolis native led his North Central squad to the state championship game just a week ago and he is a frontrunner for the Mr. Basketball award in Indiana. It was only fitting, then, that Gordon stood toe-to-toe with O.J. Mayo – also considered by some to be the country’s best recruit – and performed in front of legendary college basketball coach and Indiana native John Wooden.

Hoosiers prepare for 1st full offseason under Sampson

·

It’s been more than a week since IU’s 54-49 loss to the UCLA Bruins in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Already, the Hoosiers are beginning their offseason work and preparing for the 2007-08 campaign. IU coach Kelvin Sampson said the squad will now focus on catching up academically, but the players will also begin their offseason workouts soon. “Strength training will be a huge point of emphasis (in the offseason), especially for the young kids,” Sampson said last Thursday during his weekly news conference. “We do a lot of explosive work and a little bit of everything. With the rule set up for time allowed, we have to shut down everything the week before finals, so we have a three-week window to practice.”
