Fans for the love of basketball

·

In the years I've spent at IU, this year has been one of the best in terms of the IU basketball season. The games have been exciting, the team is at the top of the Big Ten, and I've only been in the balcony seats three times. With seven minutes left in the game, the William Tell Overture still gets my blood pumping, and even the wave seems to be making a huge comeback. I don't want this season to end.

'Death of a Salesman' stars impressive cast throughout

·

Watching Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman" in the new Ruth N. Halls Theatre was much like reading the play from the text -- it started out slow. There was some confusion because I was not certain yet how I should feel about the characters. In fact, the first time I read the play for a class, I didn't even make it through the first act because I got bored with the material. When I revisited the play later, I realized where the show's magic lies.

Lead over Spartans slips away

·

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- For IU, this is the one that got away. And Tom Coverdale took the blame. All of it. The junior point guard committed a foul, missed a free throw and missed a potential game-tying three pointer as time expired Sunday. IU coughed up sole possession of first place in the Big Ten, falling to Michigan State 57-54 in front of a Breslin Center crowd of 14,759.

Seniors say goodbye with a win

·

The Frank Southern Center isn't known as one of the more luxurious facilities in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. Because of its smaller ice surface, low ceiling and, until recent renovations, inadequate lighting, "The Frank" was often jokingly referred to as "the cave" by opponents.

Team can't control destiny in Big Ten

·

UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn. -- The IU women's track and field team would have been in good shape if it controlled its own destiny heading into the final event of the Big Ten Indoor Championships. The event was the 4x400-meter relay, and IU broke the meet record in a time of 3:40.44.

Letterman shows no sign of stopping after twenty years of laughter

·

MUNCIE -- David Letterman has spent the past 20 years of his career prying into the personal affairs of guests who appear on his show. But there is one life Letterman has kept away from the eye of late-night scrutiny -- his own. As a fraternity brother who knew Letterman well, Ball State alumnus Jeff Lewis said he believes Letterman's insecurity stemmed from a deep-seated lack of self-confidence.

A 15-minute quickie

·

First let me explain that "Naked Ambition," produced by Rick Fonte, is a part of the Bloomington Playwright Project's "Dark Alley" Series. It feels like it too. You walk into the main gallery, down a little hallway, around corners and through black drapes into a dark room with 50 or so people sitting on the sides. The people look curious, guilty or like they're trying to stifle an imminent giggle fit. You feel as if you've just entered the back room of an adult bookstore.

There's strength in numbers

·

This weekend, a few of my sorority sisters and I packed into my battered Toyota Corolla and headed up I-65 to West Lafayette, swimsuits in hand and Dave Matthews Band blaring. We'd been approached by our house's director of philanthropy a few weeks before and asked to participate in Purdue's Delta Gamma chapter's annual philanthropy, Anchor Splash. The event pits greek houses against one another in relay and synchronized swimming events to raise money for the sorority's national philanthropy, Service for Sight.
