Complex plot in latest novel Palestine

Though "Skinny Legs and All" is not Tom Robbins' most recent novel, it remains extremely pertinent. This novel deserves far more attention than it now receives, for it is not only cleverly written, but it deals with an increasingly controversial political topic -- the Israeli-Palestinian conflict -- in a way that is fresh, even 13 years after the original publication of the novel.

Not 'Much' to performance

Demands for new president

Last Thursday IU's board of trustees announced the appointment of Adam W. Herbert as the 17th president of IU. Herbert comes to the job with over 30 years of experience in higher education, most recently as the director of the Florida Center for Public Policy and Leadership, and his selection drew applause from the IU community and others throughout the state.

In December, the search firm of Baker, Parker and Associates, based in Atlanta, which helped the University locate its next president, presented a report to the IU board of trustees suggesting the University should offer the new president $600,000 to $800,000 a year to keep pace with most universities around the country. The University did not exactly take their suggestion.

Maybe it's because he's from Canada, but Dan Snaith's mix of electronica-rock seems surprisingly uncorporate. While other dance/electronic vibes leave me feeling souless with a stomach full of Fast Food nationality or otherwise like a modern American, Snaith's blend of loose, textured percussion and sunglow melodies leaves something for the uncool to grasp onto.

Aping everything from Sabbath to Church

Ok, so the story is the Apes travel down a river in search of the mystical two-headed butterfly and meet a range of interesting characters along the way. Admittedly, without the trusty press kit and program Frenchkiss sent the IDS, this storyline would have completely gone over my head. The best rock operas (like Prince Paul's Prince Among Thieves) match up great material with a comprehensive and fascinating plot, and even the ones with shaky plots (Tommy, the Kinks' Arthur) can often get by on great songs alone.
