Filmmaker screens, discusses film focusing on ethnic identity

Film director Alicia Woods saw a flier for the Native Voices program at the University of Washington-Seattle and was hooked. Woods said she liked the idea of a video as her thesis project because she could share her work with more than the academic world. Her project became the film “American Red and Black: Stories of Afro-Native Identity” and was shown Thursday night at the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center.

Sophomore Michelle Bloomfield checks out DVDs to freshman Adam Zacher Tuesday evening in the Teter Library. Students can be fined for not returning materials rented through the free service on time, which can result in penalties that unwittingly build up.

Some students unaware of RPS Library fines

Residential Programs and Services Libraries: Music, Movies and More has implemented fines for late returns since its inception, but many students, including freshman Tilman Nadolski, thought otherwise.

Police: Miami piano teacher kills kids, wife, self

Pablo Amador was a “regular dad” who made music with his children and shared his gift teaching kids to play piano. He was a man known for a friendly wave and lending a hand to jump-start a car. And those who knew him say they can’t understand why he apparently shot and killed his two daughters, his wife and then himself.

US hostages’ chronicle critical of Betancourt

Three Americans held captive by Colombia’s leftist rebels for more than five years published a memoir Thursday full of wrenching survival stories and unkind words about Ingrid Betancourt, the most famous hostage who shared their jungle prisons.
