The cult of Hunter

·

I'm not yet at the age where my heroes die. The people who inspire and entertain me and my generation are usually young enough to still be productive. Those people whom I consider my heroes seem so immortal. They're either young enough for me to theoretically know personally or old enough to belong in some pantheon of greatness.

Pope surprises with post-surgery blessing

·

VATICAN CITY -- Touching his throat fitted with a breathing tube, Pope John Paul II on Sunday made a surprise first public appearance after surgery, appearing at his hospital window just moments after a Vatican official stood on the steps of St. Peter's Basilica to read the pontiff's appeal for prayers. The 84-year-old pope did not speak during his one-minute greeting from Rome's Gemelli Polyclinic hospital, but sent an implicit and powerful message about his determination to maintain continuity in the church.

'Public Parts' considers questions of love

·

Billed as a comedy, Rich Orloff's one-act "Public Parts" takes a hard, quick look at love, sex, relationships, getting ahead in life and other things people pretend to know more about than they really do. It is the latest addition of the Bloomington Playwright Project's Dark Alley series, which opened this weekend.

In with the 'in' minutes

·

Judge me not by my lyric-less cell phone ringtone. Quite frankly, I don't have enough daytime minutes to hold off on my chit-chat while you laughingly play "name that tune" to the beep, beep, beeps of my old school, polyphonic audio ring. My ego bruises easy, so even if I'm using daytime, nighttime or Verizon's "in" minutes -- I can't deal with the jokes about a couple of my ringtones not including actual voices or instrument-produced music.

Iran, Russia sign nuclear fuel agreement

·

BUSHEHR, Iran -- Iran and Russia ignored U.S. objections and signed a nuclear fuel agreement Sunday that is key to bringing Tehran's first reactor online by mid-2006. The long-delayed deal, signed at the heavily guarded Bushehr nuclear facility in southern Iran, dramatized President Bush's failure to persuade the Russians to curtail support for the Iranian nuclear program during his summit with Vladimir Putin Thursday in Slovakia.

The concern over Iran's nuclear power

·

Nuclear weapons have been a topic of concern since the development of the atomic bomb during World War I. But with President Bush's recent tour of Europe, they have become the backbone of political discourse.

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Iraqi officials said Sunday that Syria captured and handed over Saddam Hussein's half brother, a most-wanted leader in the Sunni-based insurgency, ending months of Syrian denials that it was harboring fugitives from the ousted Saddam regime. Iraq authorities said Damascus acted in a gesture of goodwill.

Scary 2nd half ruins IU's upset attempt

IU's most recent episode resulted in a 52-35 loss to No. 15 Minnesota Thursday, only hitting three of their 27 shots after the break. The Hoosiers' 35 points stand as the second fewest allowed by Minnesota in their history.
