Los Angeles archdiocese to pay $660M in settlement

The nation’s largest Catholic archdiocese has settled its abuse cases for $660 million, by far the largest payout in the church’s sexual abuse scandal, The Associated Press has learned. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the plaintiffs reached the deal Saturday, said Ray Boucher, the lead plaintiff’s attorney.

IU football team’s desire will quiet critics

IU is a big-time athletics school. This point is clear because of the construction on the North End Zone project that began recently, the board of trustees consideration of the construction of a new basketball arena (to be built once the approximately $130 million can be brought in to construct it) and a huge fan base that demands winning. But the size of IU athletics and its influence on the national market are not as high as those of Ohio State and Michigan. Those schools’ reputations? Great athletics programs that are home to one thing currently absent in Bloomington – a powerhouse football team.

Earth First! Common sense last!

Last week, radical environmentalists/anarchists from the Earth First! movement vandalized One City Center, a downtown building housing the I-69 planning offices, by painting and chalking the area with anti-interstate, pro-environment slogans.

Body found in Griffy Lake identified Friday afternoon

Local authorities are investigating a body found in Griffy Lake on Thursday afternoon. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Bloomington Police, Sheriff’s and Fire Departments were all on the scene. Indiana State Police were assisting as well.
