King’s teachings continue

Internship fair brings nationwide companies

Students looking to gain real work experience and bolster their resumes might find their chance tomorrow. The Career Development Center will host the 2008 Career Services Internship Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday in Alumni Hall in the Indiana Memorial Union. The event brings in more than 60 recruiters for internship opportunities for students in all majors.

Seminar to offer retail information

Kelsea Foist, a senior majoring in retail studies and a career seminar officer, has been attending the Retail Student Organization Career Seminar since her sophomore year and has found this cliche to ring true. Making small talk at the seminar her sophomore year led to a business card that ultimately led to starting her career at Target Corporate as a business analyst in Minneapolis following her graduation in May this year.

Housing fair has more than 100 choices

Students will have the opportunity to explore more than 100 on- and off-campus housing options at today’s Housing Fair, which is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union. The fair, which is sponsored by the Indiana Daily Student, will be set up like a job fair, but instead of recruiters, housing vendors will man the tables. While attending the fair, students can schedule appointments to see various properties and some locations will offer virtual tours.

John McCain’s win in the South Carolina presidential primary was important for plenty of reasons – in a race where four different candidates could conceivably seize the nomination, surely every state counts. Most importantly to me, it represented the triumph of one part of the Republican party over another.

I’m sitting in the middle of the woods on perhaps the coldest day of the year and I am not exactly sure why. When we left the house earlier the electric thermometer display outside registered a chilly nine degrees, and although there was little wind, it felt much colder.

And so the battle wages on: What kind of generation are we, and who gets to decide? Apparently, the New York Times decides. Earlier this year the paper held an essay contest for college students, who responded to the question, “What defines our generation?” The winner, a Yale student, dubbed the college-aged population “The Posteverything Generation” for its alleged “postmodern” lack of an “overarching narrative” to the story of our generation.

Comedy Caravan celebrates 25 years

There was barely a dry eye in the back room of Bear’s Place Monday night as audience members laughed themselves to tears at the 25th anniversary performance of the weekly Comedy Caravan shows. With a history of performers like Jeff Foxworthy, Ellen DeGeneres and Tim Allen, Bear’s Place has been a destination for stand-up comedy fans on Monday and Saturday nights for the past quarter-century.

Wall Street struggled to steady itself Tuesday, climbing back from an early plunge after the Federal Reserve implemented an emergency interest rate cut in hopes of restoring stability to a faltering U.S. economy. The Dow Jones industrials, down 465 points at the start of the session, recovered to a loss of more than 180 points.
