More than 3,000 people filled Butler University’s Clowes Memorial Hall Thursday night to listen to doctors-turned-authors who are living their dreams. \nDrs. Rameck Hunt, Sampson Davis and George Jenkins, known as “The Three Doctors,” are the authors of “The Pact: Three Young Men Make a Promise and Fulfill a Dream.” The New York Times bestseller documents the rise and struggles of the three friends from the Newark, N.J. ghetto, who make a high-school pact to become doctors. \n“I think (our fame) just happened by chance when the opportunity came,” Hunt said, “and we are just doing this to inspire the community and inspire more young people to fulfill their dreams through education,” Hunt said. \nThe men stressed that an individual has no excuse for not fulfilling his or her dream.\nThey said that regardless of life’s difficulties, everyone should believe that education can take them where they want to be. \nEach of the men grew up in broken homes and managed to become positive influences in each other’s lives. They made a pact to become successful doctors and help other young people to succeed in their lives by becoming role models. \nToday, Hunt and Davis are medical doctors, while Jenkins is a dentist. \n“What seemed impossible became possible for us, and our friendship really glued us together because we were positive influences to each other,” Davis said. \nJenkins said even though their lives were difficult, they never gave up and always helped each other with challenging medical classes and life problems. \n“We brought out more positive in us than we ever knew because we were always positive impacts on each other,” he said. “We borrow each other to become better people everyday.” \nWhen asked what the three doctors’ future plans were, Davis said they had no books being published but they wanted to target many young people through different media outlets, such as movies and cartoons. All three men said achieving education will guarantee a person’s success, and people who try can accomplish their dreams if they don’t give up. \n“I can’t stress it enough to the young people ... college education is a must because you don’t want to be the person who misses the bus,” Davis said. “The only person who can stop you from success is yourself.”
