Ethnic food goes fast at church

Empty crock pots and other dishes were the only items that remained on most tables, the food long gone. “This was 15 pounds of beef,” said Vera Heitink, co-chair of the United Presbyterian Church’s annual Ethnic Food Fair, pointing to an empty crock pot.

Fair’s games make healthy learning fun

Children bopped around in inflatable play areas, chomped on popcorn and tossed cornhole bean bags – all in the name of health. “It’s been a lot of fun, ” said Faith Campbell, a Bloomfield resident, who was interrupted by a whistle blowing. “And loud.” Health and safety collided with family entertainment Saturday at the third annual Children’s Health & Safety FUN! Fair, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of South Central Indiana.

The House of Representatives passed legislation last Thursday that would take private lenders out of the student loan industry altogether and save U.S. taxpayers close to $90 billion during 10 years, money which would then be used to increase Pell grant allocations and pay for community college reforms.

You’re not from Chicago

There is an irritating phenomenon plaguing our school on par with fixed-gear bikes and “pimps and hoes” theme parties. It is the practice of declaring residence in Chicago, when perhaps you’re really from a distant suburb such as Lake Forest – a mere moon relative to Chicago’s orbit.

Some things are just bad

So I’m in a class about ethics, and I’m not really buying it. Sure, I love the hypothetical discussions of what’s good to do when, but I get so bothered when it all boils down to being relative, when the goodness or badness of something is decided by the context of the culture.

3 arrested for false statements in US terror probe

Irving’s uncle: IU is out
