Teams tight up front

With less than 36 hours until the 2003 men's Little 500, riders are starting to feel the pressure of competition. Come Saturday, they will be hoping months, and, in many cases, years, of training will pay off with the championship title.

Former Iraqi leader in custody

WASHINGTON -- U.S. forces in Iraq have taken custody of Tariq Aziz, the former deputy prime minister and the most visible Iraqi leader other than Saddam Hussein. Officials at the Pentagon and at Central Command headquarters in Qatar said Thursday they did not know whether Aziz was captured or whether he turned himself in.

Step show features local and state teams

Saturday night, 12 of the best collegiate step teams from IU and other colleges across the state will present their 2003 step routines. These teams will be competing at 6 p.m. Saturday in the inaugural Little 5 Stepdown Competition for the title of "Best Step Team in Indiana." "This is a chance for the teams to display their creativity," said junior Jeremy Morris, a Union Board member. Rickey Smiley will be the host for the event. Smiley is a former host of BET's popular comedy showcase "Comic View."

FBI apologizes to detainees

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The head of the FBI in Indiana publicly apologized for the detention of eight Egyptian men from Evansville, who were held as part of a terrorism investigation just weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks.

'Idols' visit College Mall

"American Idol" began in the United Kingdom and came to the United States last summer because of its overnight success. Over 30 million viewers tuned in for the finale last season, as Kelly Clarkson was named the first "American Idol." The search for the second "American Idol" is in progress as only five contestants are left. "American Idol" is on twice a week on Fox.

Trustees discuss tuition increases

Just when IU students thought tuition couldn't get any higher, the IU board of trustees will meet in early May to determine if tuition will increase again. The board approved a 7.5 percent increase for the 2001-2002 school year.

Phi Taus work toward meeting IU requirements

Iraqi ministries to reopen

Some Iraqi government operations will resume by late next week, the American overseeing postwar reconstruction said Thursday. He also contended that Iran was to some degree behind recent anti-American demonstrations in Iraq.

Hoosier misses home
