'Old School' goes new school on DVD

"Old School" desperately wants to be "National Lampoon's Animal House," and it will go to any lengths to elicit a full-on, piss-your-pants laugh attack to prove it. Rightfully, it was a big hit in theaters. With a new unrated DVD, it's that much better. Well mostly, viewers are "treated" to additional helpings of Will Ferrell's bare ass.

'Talk to Her' takes the big sleep

"Talk to Her," Pedro Almodóvar's latest Spanish flick, explores the lives and emotional turbulence of two men, whose respective love interests are in a coma. While acted and directed well, the actual plot of the film is about as interesting as their brain-dead women.

'Go Wild' someplace else

While some may wonder why "Rugrats Go Wild" was made, one must look at the roots. The movie is a combination of both "Rugrats" and "The Wild Thornberry's," which have each had their own movies prior. "Rugrats" actually has two, which have made money. "The Wild Thornberry's" movie was even nominated for a Best Song Oscar.

Arrest the plans to a new jail

We have a problem in Monroe County. The county council is thinking about spending $58 million … on a band-aid. Because of an inmate-rights lawsuit, Monroe County officials have found themselves scrambling to rectify the problem of jail overcrowding. With little time to work out a solution, the county council is considering using an 85 acre plot of land on the south side of the county to patch the hole. The county purchased this land just last year to build a new juvenile facility, and now, possibly a newer and larger jail.

What about the undergrads?

This past week, the Kelley School of Business, in conjunction with American Banking Association's Stonier School of Banking at Georgetown University, made headlines on a plan that will allow for the two schools to interconnect their degree programs and improve education. Once again, leave it to the business school to show why it ranks amongst the best in the nation by being an innovator in education.

Hoosier slugger drafted

Vasili Spanos was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 11th round of the June 3 MLB draft, making him the 332nd overall pick and the third Hoosier taken in the last two years. Spanos had the kind of numbers that are hard to overlook, and it appears that Oakland now has a bona fide slugger in their farm system. Why would Oakland, or any other team for that matter, be impressed enough with Spanos to use a first-day draft pick on him? Well, for anyone who hasn't noticed, he has been putting up impressive numbers during his Hoosier career, which climaxed in a great senior campaign -- leading the Big Ten in virtually every offensive category. Spanos was the leader in the conference in batting average (.434, which was 40 points higher than the next best average), home runs with eight, on-base percentage (.525) and slugging percentage (.778). Spanos was named to the first-team All Big Ten for the second straight year and was named recently to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Mideast Region second team.

Junior to compete for Miss America

Museum to honor black experience

Search begins for new IU Press Director

Peter-John Leone is resigning as director of the IU Press after holding the position for three years. "I am proud of the fact that we restructured to respond to the change in the publishing environment," Leone said. He said adjustments also were made to digital aspects, bringing the Press "up to speed." Additionally, Leone said he found his job very rewarding because he worked with "so many wonderful professionals who are devoted and care about their work." IU Press is an academic, professional, not-for-profit publisher that serves the world of scholarship and culture by publishing books and journals around the nation and the world. Whistleblower awarded $1.35M

NEW YORK -- A former employee of Rockland Community College has been awarded $1.35 million by a federal jury that found she was wrongly fired after warning the school that federal funds were being misused.
