Aging or no, Sonic Youth still has it

Sonic Youth is something else -- for a band to still be creating and innovating on their 19th album boggles the mind, not to mention the fact that they've managed to make a worthy follow-up to 2002's Murray Street, arguably their best album of the past 10 years.

Biting? Raw? Brilliant? 'Uh Huh'

It doesn't happen often, but every once in a while an artist comes along and puts out an album that leaves a deep impression so long after listening that you can't help but be in awe of it.

An alleged comment by an IU assistant professor of political science incited one of his students to post a complaint against him on a political Web site. The complaint was lodged against assistant professor Abdulkader Sinno, who taught a class on the contemporary Middle East in world politics during the 2003 fall semester.

Congo violence sparks exodus

CIBITOKE, Burundi -- More than 22,000 Congolese refugees fleeing fighting in eastern Congo have crossed the border into Burundi in the past week, a local official said Wednesday. The refugees have been put into two camps in Cibitoke and Rugumbo, two towns just miles apart near the Congolese border. Refugees were separated because of tensions between different tribes in eastern Congo, said Onespohore Nduwumwami, mayor of Rugombo.

Saudi women heard -- not seen -- during forum on status RIYADH, Saudi Arabia -- One woman criticized rules that keep Saudi women from teaching boys. Another said working women should be allowed to do more than teach. Still others called for more rights for divorced women. Saudi women were allowed to be heard -- but not seen -- at a three-day forum this week on their status in this conservative Islamic kingdom.

Center researches Congress

An e-learning activity on the Center of Congress' Web site at IU is now allowing students to be in charge of allocating the United States' annual budget -- but only in virtual reality at http://congress.indiana.edu/. In the Federal Budget Allocation Activity, the general public, high school or college students can engage in the allocation of money to different agencies and learn the implications of their decisions for the entire budget.
