Weekend ends tough non-conference stretch

IU's women's tennis team is going up against two highly ranked opponents on the road this weekend -- No. 19 Tennessee and No. 7 Kentucky. But this isn't the only reason for the No. 29 Hoosiers to anticipate Sunday evening.

IU fine tunes its skills at Hoosier Hills

One more week. Members of the men's track team have been repeating this mantra fairly often recently. At first they looked to two elite meets to try to get qualifying marks, and now they are set for the Big Ten Championships Feb. 26 amd 27 at Purdue. "I think the team is really excited about Big Ten's," said sophomore All-American David Neville. "We really have a chance to win the meet as a whole, so we're getting ready to start peaking fast."

Mile-high All-Star game is LeBron's first

DENVER -- A mile above sea level, just a little to the left of America's midsection, the NBA All-Star game has arrived lacking a clear-cut theme. It will be LeBron James' first appearance and Shaquille O'Neal's 12th in the league's showcase event, and in between those two on the frequency meter are 22 other well-deserving players of various shapes and sizes -- though there's nary a Nugget to represent the host team, and no compelling story line to reel in the casual fan.

Diving records smashed in Big Ten's

Apparently, size does matter. Penn State capitalized on the depth of its squad Thursday night at the Women's Big Ten Championships in Bloomington. Penn State took the lead after the second night of competition, telling the rest of the Big Ten they were going to have to play catch up if they are going to take the lead from them. "We came out on fire today especially in the prelims," Penn State coach Bill Dorenkott said. "We are pretty excited about our swimming today and one of our big assets is the depth we have."

Texas A&M-CC wins on Hoosiers' home court 59-49

When IU hit Branch McCracken court Thursday night the Hoosiers had the chance to win back-to-back games for the first time since mid-December. Instead IU will have to start back at square one after a loss to Texas A&M Corpus Christi 59-49.

Broadcaster Dick Enberg to visit IU

Dick Enberg will be visiting IU to sign copies of his new book at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 26. The event will be held at the Virgil E. DeVault Alumni Center, 1000 E. 17th St. The event is free and open to all willing to come. He will give a brief address before beginning the signing of his book, "Dick Enberg: Oh My!"

IU looks for every win to be able to 'dance'

With five games left in the regular season, IU needs everything to go their way to dance with 63 other teams in March. Heading north for Sunday's game against Michigan, the Hoosiers will look to their seven-game winning streak against the Wolverines as inspiration to begin a stretch they need to stay above .500 for a shot at post-season play.

Overlooked IMU dining

Stepping into the Tudor Room restaurant on the third floor of the Indiana Memorial Union feels like stepping into a country club. The high ceilings, big open windows and delicate artwork make it easy to forget that the restaurant is located on IU's campus. But don't be fooled. The Tudor Room is rich in IU tradition. The high ceilings are adorned with flags that represent different schools of the University.

Chargers put franchise tag on star quarterback

SAN DIEGO -- For a guy who wasn't expected to do much last season, Drew Brees sure got a nice raise. The San Diego Chargers used their franchise tag Thursday on Brees and will offer him a one-year contract at just more than $8 million. The quarterback made $1.56 million in base pay last season, when he led the Chargers out of the NFL's basement to the AFC West title at 12-4. The Chargers needed to put the tag on Brees, the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year, to keep him from leaving as an unrestricted free agent.

LONDON -- Flamboyant Welsh designer Julien Macdonald's autumn/winter offerings were the highlight of the first day of London fashion shows, revealing a collection featuring fur and crystals.
