Longform

The Kite Runner

BoD: Books

·

Between “Twilight” and “Harry Potter,” it seems fantasy has ruled the last 10 years. But other genres also blossomed, and below are some that will stick in our mind for years to come.

A Serious Man

Seriously funny

·

Do bad things happen to people at random or can they be traced back to some ancestral curse? According to the Coen brothers the source of such events is irrelevant when one is faced with an endless series of tribulations.

Old Dogs

‘Old Dogs,’ old tricks

·

Someone at the studio should have had the sense of mind to put this script out of its misery. Unfortunately, no one did, and now we’re left with this newest, lamest travesty, “Old Dogs.”

Ninja Assassin

Ninja Assassin

·

Awesome. I try to refrain from this overused, watered down word as much as possible, but there really is no other way to describe “Ninja Assassin.”

Everybody's FIne

So far from fine

·

“Everybody’s” Frank Goode is the kind of elderly man that casually brags about his kids’ successes as if you brought it up.

Brothers

'Brothers' is a war of emotions

·

Brothers is yet another example of a film that is advertised as being something completely different than it actually is, and it treats its subject with far more delicacy than its thriller-like trailer would have us believe. Rather than focusing on a forbidden sexual tryst and the husband’s insane jealousy, the story is more about war, and how a ripple effect brings its horrors to everyone involved.

The Bravery

A stirring disappointment

·

The Bravery’s newest album, “Stir the Blood,” could be more accurately titled. “Curl the Blood” for the emotions it evokes in the listener.

19 party

1,500 hopefuls attend 19 Party, narrow choices

·

This weekend the 19 Panhellenic sorority houses on campus opened their doors to more than 1,500 women to recruit new members for the upcoming year at 19 Party, the first of four recruitment rounds occurring during the next month.
