Dacia Sachtjen

Dacia Sachtjen is currently serving in the National Guard with the 219th BSFB. Sachtjen enlisted in 2007 and is scheduled to deploy to Iraq in March 2011, where she will work as a paralegal in a Judge Advocate General office.

Kayla Nier

Kayla Nier is currently serving in the Army National Guard. Nier enlisted in 2003 and was deployed to Iraq in 2007 where she worked as both a radar repair technition and in human resources. Nier founded her own nonprofit organization “Hearts and Minds” which aims to build a positive relationship between Iraqi children and the US Military. Nier reinlisted near the Tigris river during her tour. Her husband is also in military and is currently deployed.

Michael Mojonnier

Michael Mojonnier enlisted in 2004 and was first deployed in 2005 to Mosul, Iraq, and then to Ali Al Salem Airforce Base in Kuwait in 2007 where he worked in security forces, which provides law enforcement on military bases.

Frank Linville

Frank Linville enlisted in the Army in November 2001. Linville was then deployed to Iraq in 2003 and 2005 and to Afghanistan 2009. He also spent a year in the demilitarized zone in Korea. Linville met his wife while on deployment in Iraq where she was serving as a counter intelligence officer in the US Army. Linville served his full eight-year commitment and now spends his time in class or with his wife and young daughter.

Chris Hughie

Chris Hughie is currently a corporal serving in the Marine Corp reserves. Hughie enlisted in 2006 and was deployed to Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan in the same deployment. While in Iraq, Hughie ran convoys to Ramadi and Baghdad.

Samuel Gras

Samuel Gras enlisted in the US Army in 2004 after graduating from IU in 2000. After being commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, Gras was deployed first to Kuwait then to forward operating base Iskandariyah in Iraq in 2005. Gras left the Army in 2008 and lived with his wife in Slovenia for two years before returning to Bloomington for school. He is currently taking foreign language classes in preparation for graduate school.

Eric East

Eric East was serving on board an aircraft carrier in Australia on September 11, 2001, when he was immediately deployed to Afghanistan. After leaving the military, East has spent seven years researching the United States' role in Afghanistan and its dealings with Osama Bin Laden.

Rudy Eckstein

Rudy Eckstein worked as a radiation specialist (formally known as a machinist mate nuclear program 2nd class) on a nuclear submarine stationed in Guam. He made sure the submarine was not emitting hazardous radiation as it acted as a deterrent to countries in the Pacific like China, North Korea and Indonesia.

Krista Dora

Krista Dora enlisted in the Army in 2005. Dora was deployed from Manheim, Germany, to Camp Taji, near Baghdad, Iraq in 2006. Dora spent 15 months in Iraq and returned to Germany in late 2007. Dora left the Army in 2009 and is currently a junior majoring in general studies.

Jeremy Degler

Jeremy Degler served in the US Marine Corps. Degler entered the Marine Corps when he was 17 years old on the Delayed Entry Program and was deployed to Iraq in 2005 where he took part in humanitarian aid missions and patrols. Degler graduated from IU after leaving the Marine Corps and is currently a graduate student in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
