PARIS – Sitting on a budget airline flight from Stockholm to Paris, drowsy from a lack of sleep and a large amount of time spent in transit, I listened to a man who sounds like he’s imitating the Swedish chef (Muppets, anyone?) and reminisce about my weekends spent country hopping.

IU loses in overtime against St. John's

IU coach Mike Freitag had little to say.After Saturday’s 3-2 elimination loss to St. John’s in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, the Hoosiers headed home, one match short of the College Cup.

INDIANAPOLIS – After being trounced by No. 15 Wake Forest on Wednesday, IU faced another nationally ranked foe Saturday – No. 5 Gonzaga.The Hoosiers kept the game close throughout, but eventually succumbed to the Bulldogs, losing 70-54.

Soccer team prepares for national quarterfinals

IU senior midfielder John Mellencamp has waited his entire life for a chance to play in the College Cup. That chance might almost be here. “I think about it every night,” he said jokingly. “I have had a couple of dreams about it already. I want to end on that high note with a championship. With the characters of the guys on this team, I wouldn’t want anything less for these guys other than to win that championship.” The No. 6-seeded Hoosiers (14-6-3) will face the No. 3-seeded St. John’s Red Storm (18-2-3) at 5 p.m. Saturday in Queens, N.Y., in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.

Pritchard getting ‘star treatment’

During seven games, IU’s offense has gone through freshman forward Tom Pritchard. As a result, Pritchard is leading Big Ten freshmen in scoring and rebounding – averaging 14.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. His success has not gone unnoticed.

2nd-year law students receive scholarships, summer positions

Second-year IU law students Omar Badawi and Gillian Crowl have been named the recipients of the second annual $10,000 Baker & Daniels Diversity Scholarship, which recognizes law students of varied ethnic, cultural and racial backgrounds. Lifestyles and unique viewpoints are also considered in determining recipients.

BFA photography show expresses media neglect

The old Wal-Mart building off State Road 45 has been sitting empty for two years, but last Sunday, a corner of its overgrown parking lot was filled with professional lighting equipment, suitcases and shivering Bachelor of Fine Arts photography students.

Bags from Nepal, soap from India, hats from Bolivia and jewelry from Kenya were displayed on tables filling the Georgian room in the Indiana Memorial Union. The products are supplied by Fair Trade and represent dozens of countries from around the world.


IU third-year MFA acting student Dawn Thomas performs as the lead role Marisol during a dress rehearsal for Marisol on Monday night in the Wells-Metz Theater. The production, written by Jose Rivera, the author of "Motorcycle Diaries", will show at 7:30pm December 5th and 6th as well as 9th-13th in the Wells-Metz Theatre.
