Before 2009, there was only one method of waste disposal in the Indiana Memorial Union kitchens: the dumpster. Now, because of initiatives set in place by Nora Kayden, a sustainability intern at IU, hundreds of pounds of waste become useful resources instead of trash.
America is at a crossroads as we face a cooling economy and a warming world. The solution is investing in new, clean energy for America, which can strengthen our economy, put people back to work, reduce our dependence on dirty oil and coal and tackle climate change.
Although I like to think of IU and its students as environmentally friendly and forward-thinking, we still depend on a large coal-burning power plant for our energy. Even more surprising is the fact that many students have no idea that there is a coal power plant on campus.
IU Athletics Director Fred Glass will answer questions from students Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Indiana Memorial Union Market.
I’ve always considered my humor to be multifaceted. There’s the more mature side that appreciates witty dialogue, pop culture references and political jokes as well as the college student who loves sarcasm, YouTube videos and collegehumor.com.
Since the legendary Bob Dylan visited the IU Auditorium on Monday, his music has softly sung in my ears. However, when people hear “folk music,” many do not understand the great impact that this unique genre has had on popular culture.
Senior Clare Crosh spoke to her teammates last Thursday with tears in her eyes. Oct. 29 marked the end of her athletic career on the IU Women’s Club Soccer Team – four years of chilly Saturday morning games, two-hour practices every Monday through Thursday and long hours fundraising for new equipment.
MUNSTER, Ind. – Alcohol was not sold during election hours in Indiana’s second-most populous county even though no one was going to the voting booths.
INDIANAPOLIS – A priest found a homeless man dead inside a downtown Indianapolis church from what police say was an apparent fall of about 20 feet from the choir loft.

The kids have been polled and results are in for the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis’s 11th-annual Kid-Tested, Kid-Approved Toy Test.
It’s as if Michael Jackson foresaw what was in store for him when he named his tour: “This Is It” would either be his final curtain call or he would die trying to put on the greatest show of all time – sadly, it was the latter.
Let Kanye West say what he wants, but Taylor Swift still kicks ass. After capturing the sympathies of millions of young women with her 2008 album, “Fearless,” Swift is back at it again with the album’s Platinum Edition.
Break-up records are nothing new, but few seem as emotionally genuine as The Swell Season’s “Strict Joy.” Glen Hansard & Marketa Irgolva, who became a couple while filming their reality-blurring indie film hit “Once” (which won them an Academy Award for the song “Falling Slowly”), broke up at some point during the creation of “Strict Joy.”

As one of the “punk” or “emo” scene’s biggest heroes, John Nolan’s first solo venture has been highly anticipated all year. And just as he did with Taking Back Sunday earlier this decade and Straylight Run a few years later, Nolan has delivered something vastly different from anything he’s done previously.
With AMC’s miniseries remake of the seminal 1960s British television drama “The Prisoner” set to debut next week, the folks at A&E Home Video have decided to re-release the entire original series – which will be nearly impossible to top.
“Battlestar Galactica” ended its run as one of the most critically acclaimed sci-fi shows in recent memory. To fill in some of the mythology blanks and tide fans over until the premiere of sister show “Caprica,” the SyFy has given “Battlestar” fans “The Plan.”
From hypnotizing guitar riffs and anticipation-gathering drum beats to ballad-heavy lyrics, Creed has brought it all to its new album “Full Circle.” It took seven years for this group to come together again, and perhaps surprisingly, the album is definitely different from past efforts.

“Misdirect” is a great word to include in the title of the new Between the Buried and Me record. Though it follows the same direction as 2007’s widely acclaimed “Colors,” “The Great Misdirect” is six songs of progressive metal that veers wildly from one genre to another on every track. Between the Buried and Me have forged a career out of these genre-hopping shenanigans and thankfully that continues here.
