Grapplers hit NCAA Championship mats

The IU wrestling team will come into the NCAA Championships on March 18 in Omaha, Neb. As the No. 1 seed at 125 pounds, senior Angel Escobedo will attempt to repeat his run that landed him a national title two years ago. With a record-breaking third Big Ten title and perfect 33-0 record under his belt, Escobedo is once again the favorite to win.

Jacobs library brings a history of music to IU

It’s been another down season for the IU men’s basketball team, and now it’s officially done. The Hoosiers fell to the Northwestern Wildcats 73-58 on Thursday at Conseco Fieldhouse. With the win, Northwestern moves on to play Purdue tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.

Female found unconscious near Foster, reports sexual assault

IU Police Department officers found an unconsciousness, partially clothed female on the north side of Foster McGee at 3:27 a.m. Thursday. IUPD confirmed the woman is an IU student.

More quakes hit Chile

A series of aftershocks from last month’s devastating quake rocked Chile on Thursday as a new president was sworn into office and immediately urged coastal residents to move to higher ground in case of a tsunami.The strongest aftershock, magnitude 6.9, was nearly as strong as the quake that devastated Haiti on Jan. 12. There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.The Chilean Navy issued a tsunami warning while the U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the aftershocks were too small to cause dangerous waves beyond Chile’s central coast.

Nearly 100 years ago, 10 brave men chartered the now historically black fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi on IU’s campus. Members of the national chapter came to visit IU this February to begin planning Founders’ Day, the centennial celebration of its founding at IU next January. As many as 800 Kappa alumni are expected to attend.

Riley Hospital expansion back on track

Despite an 11-month delay in construction, the Simon Family Tower at Riley Hospital for Children is still on track to be finished by 2013. The Simon Family and Riley Hospital for Children are synonymous with IU Dance Marathon, with millions of dollars donated from IU students to Riley Children’s Foundation.
