Abraham commits to Georgetown

IDS Reports

Moses Abraham, an IU basketball recruiting prospect from Maryland, committed to Georgetown University on Thursday after returning home from a two-day visit at IU.

Abraham, a forward also recruited by Tennessee, Maryland and UCLA, said he made one of the most difficult choices of his life in choosing Georgetown instead of IU.

“Both Indiana and Georgetown are very good schools with very good basketball programs,” Abraham said. “It was an extremely difficult decision to make. I loved my trip to Indiana. I loved everything I saw.”

Abraham was close to committing to Georgetown a couple of weeks ago before IU coach Tom Crean made a trip to convince him to visit the Bloomington campus.

Abraham spent his first day in Bloomington touring the athletic facilities and meeting some of the IU basketball players. He was seen riding around on a golf cart with a few IU assistant coaches and freshman guard Maurice Creek.

On the second day, Abraham saw more of the campus, including a couple of classrooms.

Joe Boncore, Abraham’s guardian, said the pressure of the decision had really gotten to Abraham lately.

“He would just sit in his room and pray because he didn’t want to let people down,” Boncore said.

But now the process is over, and Abraham will join a Hoyas team that earned a No. 3 seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

For IU, the 2010 recruiting class remains small. The Hoosiers have signed only two players: forward Will Sheehey and guard Victor Oladipo.
