The D.R.E.A.M. Act, which had been tacked onto the recent defense bill, would have granted legal residency and a chance at citizenship to undocumented immigrants who were brought into the U.S. as children and who are either attending college or joining the military. Republican senators filibustered the defense bill with all its attendant amendments. It couldn’t even be debated.

Rabies still a threat in Indiana

It can be found in your dog. Your new kitten can carry it. Little pests that sneak into the attic are the animals most likely to pass it on, and it’s almost 100 percent fatal. Rabies is still a concern in the United States and specifically in Indiana, officials of the Indiana State Department of Health said.

Students cited for cutting down 40-year-old red oak

John Schoenheit, age 59, was driving down his steep driveway around 2:30 a.m. Thursday when his car windshield nearly collided into the 40-year-old Red Oak that now lay elevated across the road.
