This weekend is Homecoming, and for the IU women's volleyball team the cozy confines of University Gym have never looked better. Last weekend the Hoosiers traveled east to play against Ohio State and No. 11 Penn State, and the results were less than pleasing to the Hoosier coaches and players.

Snyder honored by NHL teammates ATLANTA -- On a night of tributes to Dan Snyder, his former teammates gave him the best one -- a season-opening victory. DEFLATED

·

In order to regroup his team after a 1-5 start, this past Sunday and Monday Coach Gerry DiNardo met individually with every player who has played this season. "We have a team that has not had recent success. I just wanted to make sure we are all on the same page, and I wanted to make sure it was my page," DiNardo said. "Our guys are great, and they all are on my page. Some of the meetings lasted one minute, some lasted 10 minutes."

No more recalls!

·

The California recall election was like an awful movie, 77 days long with a predictable ending. And boy, I'm glad this whole damn thing is over. I was rooting for Gov. Gray Davis to pull through, but I'll be really honest with you: I really didn't care since I'm not a California resident (I was flipping back and forth between recall coverage and the Cubs-Marlins game, and I think subconsciously I just wanted the underdog to win).

Finding humility and hope

·

It's been less than two months since I graduated, but I've already discovered life after college is a lesson in humility. Humility is walking into a Dollar General store and asking for an employment application. Humility is standing around a Dollar General store for ten minutes while six middle-aged women scrounge around their work areas to find the employment application.

Union Board re-creates '80s prom

·

Being a fan of the '80s isn't something to be ashamed of. Crimped hair, leg warmers, acid wash jeans and music by Bananarama and Cyndi Lauper hint the fabulous decade is back. Well, at least it is for some students IU.

Pettitte leads Yankees to 6-2 win

·

NEW YORK -- Andy Pettitte and Nick Johnson showed the Boston Red Sox the grit that makes the New York Yankees so tough in October. Pettitte fought off early struggles to hold down Boston's bashing batters, and the slumping Johnson hit a go-ahead, two-run homer that powered New York to a 6-2 victory Thursday night and tied the AL championship series.

'Never lose your sense of wonder'

·

My senior high school English teacher once told me, "Never lose your sense of wonder." Although in these ensuing college years the phrase has never left me, I have slowly found myself inadvertently challenging it. I remember seeing "Jurassic Park" and being mesmerized. I remember watching Michael Jordan defy logic and soar. I remember hanging out in arcades and being blown away at the sheer sight of new video games.

From drop-out to dorm room

Indiana, bless your heart for not giving up. A legislative proposal called P-16 Plan for Improving Student Achievement is up in the air in Indiana. It's a massive education reform that plans to link early childhood learning to one's high school career. One of its marketable tenets: It raises the minimum age at which a child can drop out of high school from 16 to 18.

Basic tools might repair space shuttles

·

WASHINGTON -- Repairing the space shuttle heat shield in orbit may be simpler than NASA once thought, requiring one of the most basic of home repair items -- a foam paint brush. NASA administrator Sean O'Keefe said that engineers studying ways for spacewalking astronauts to fix a hole in the panels that protect the space shuttle from re-entry heat have found that an ordinary foam paint brush could be used to spread a special compound while the craft is in orbit.
