Brewer breaks record in IU loss

Senior middle blocker Melissa Brewer entered her name in the Hoosier record book Wednesday in a tough four-game loss to Purdue.\nThe Hoosiers lost two close games 30-28 and 30-26, before putting together a comeback effort by capturing the third game 30-21. But in another nail biter of a game, the Hoosiers fell 30-28 to lose the match and fall to 9-9 on the season and 2-5 in conference.\n"We came back and pushed and played hard, but we just let up early in the match," coach Katie Weismiller said. "That's the one thing that is on our side of the net which we can control. We need to come back and fix that."\nBrewer, however, did pass assistant coach Cydryce Carter's block assists record of 405, as she was able to record seven on the night bringing her total to 407 on her career. Brewer also added a match-high 17 kills moving her into third place for IU all-time in that category.\n"That is quite an accomplishment," Weismiller said. "She put a lot of time and effort into it, and she has gotten better and better."\nJunior outside hitter Christina Archibald and junior middle blocker Katie Pollom teamed up for 25 more kills, as junior setter Victoria Zimmerman totaled 55 assists. Fellow junior libero Beth Heimann also set a career mark with 22 digs in the loss.
