Nip / Tax

·

Remember back in '04, when a Diet Coke cost $1.39 and butt lipo was tax-free? Those will be the wistful words of fond reminiscence echoing 'round the suburban social circuit 20 years from now. That is, if Washington Senate Democrat Karen Keiser gets her way. According to The Associated Press, Keiser has proposed a 6.5 percent sales tax on elective cosmetic surgery procedures, suggesting that the revenue be used for poor children's health insurance.

Act like adults, not politicians

·

In America, men with as much power and influence as President Bush are innocent until they plead the Fifth. A few years ago, almost everyone I talked to believed Bush took us into Iraq so we could take the oil. Even some Republicans I knew said this. Last week, Fox News reported that the Coalition Provisional Government, established in Iraq after the toppling of Saddam's regime, cannot account for the Iraqi oil money it spent. So where is the money?

Boo-boo kitty bonsai

·

I've done plenty of stupid stuff here in college, often involving gross amounts of Skol Vodka, urine and occasionally near-naked pictures of myself on the Internet, but I figure I have an excuse: I was drunk. What is inexcusable, however, is the recent rash of chain letters I have received from apparently sober people on http://thefacebook.com whom I'd normally think of as at least slightly more intelligent than mentally challenged chimpanzees.

Beating teams

·

Beating kids is bad. We all know this. That's why Gary coach Thayer Williamson is charged with three counts of felony battery after allegedly beating 11 of the 12 players on the Melton Elementary School boys' basketball team. According to the players, Williamson was profoundly upset by the loss of a game Nov. 16, and as a means of discipline, he brought a duct tape-wrapped paddle to practice the next day.
