IU wins every match against 2 teams this weekend

Twelve singles matches. Six doubles matches. 30 sets of unbeaten tennis. \nThe IU men's tennis team dominated its pair of home matches Saturday, never surrendering even a set to the opposition, en route to two 7-0 victories over Murray State and Butler. \nHead Coach Ken Hydinger glowed about his players Saturday.\n"I was very pleased with our performance today," he said. "We had good discipline and focus throughout the day. We had no check-outs and we played hard the entire day." \nThe day began with Murray State. Senior Jakub Praibis continued to lead the way for IU in the young spring season at the No. 1 position in singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Fadi Zamjaoui. Praibis also teamed with junior Dmytro Ishtuganov for a win at the No. 2 doubles spot. Praibis is ranked 61st in the nation. \n"We really took control in these matches," Praibis said. "We concentrated and didn't allow them to compete with us."\nPraibis received plenty of backup from his fellow teammates. Freshman Michael McCarthy, playing at the No. 2 slot, won his 10th match of the overall year with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Murray State's Chris Morgan. At the No.1 doubles position, senior Ryan Recht and junior John Stone won 8-2 over the tandem of Morgan and Zamjaoui. Istuganov captured a singles victory at the No. 3 spot, and senior Tom Bagnato and sophomore David Bubenicek also earned singles wins.\nMcCarthy was also impressed with the team's first spring win. \n"We didn't take them lightly at all," he said. "We came out and played hard from the beginning, and we were able to get wins because of that."\nAfter the Murray State win, the Hoosiers looked ahead to Butler at 5 p.m. Butler, the defending Horizon League Conference champs, presented a bigger challenge to IU -- they came to Bloomington 1-1 on the spring season. Nevertheless, IU was able to cruise to another 7-0 victory. \nPraibis performed double-duty for the Hoosiers, playing and winning at the No. 1 spot for the second time in the two Saturday matches. He defeated Butler's James Low 6-4, 6-1. Again, Praibis teamed with Ishtuganov for a doubles win, this time at the No. 1 doubles spot.\nJunior Neil Kenner won at the No. 2 singles position for IU, McCarthy won at the No. 3 spot, Stone won at No. 4 and Bubenicek rounded out the Hoosier lineup with a win at No. 5. The Butler match also included a win from freshman Dara McLoughlin, the Ireland native's first win of the spring season. \nHydinger was pleased with the team's total effort.\n"It's so hard to highlight just one performance," he said. "Everyone competed so well. It's hard to focus on just one person. I could say positive things about everybody."\nThe No. 62-ranked Hoosiers stay home next Saturday for a meet with No. 54 Middle Tennessee State.\n-- Contact Staff Writer Eamonn Brennan at eabrenna@indiana.edu.
