For Phi Gamma Delta rain, cold and wind aren't enough to hinder a great performance. As rain struck during the 30th heat during Thursday's final Little 500 event, it was hard to see if there would be an end to the Spring Series Events.

Sparing weather draws students to Woodlawn Field for night games

It is 10:15 on a Wednesday night. Some students might be cramming for exams at the library, others slamming 15 cent drafts at the Bluebird. However, after the sun goes down, the 64 degree temperature gives students incentive to linger outdoors winstead of in the bars or at their books, enjoying athletic opportunities.

Semester at Sea program offers different destination

When students at IU consider going abroad, some think of the traditional countries first. Places like England, France and Italy are consistently at the top of the list. But 10 IU students decided to forego studying in these countries. Instead, they're spending this semester aboard the MV Explorer, a ship from the Semester at Sea program.

Walk aims to fight homlessness in city

For the past three years, a path through historic Bloomington has paved the way for walkers to learn more about homelessness in their community. Homeward Bound, Indiana's 5K walk to help fight homelessness, kicks off this Sunday at 2 p.m. in Third Street Park.

Bomb thrown by motorcyclist in Cairo kills 2, wounds 20

CAIRO, Egypt -- An explosion apparently set off by a bomber on a motorcycle hit a tour group shopping in a historic bazaar Thursday, killing at least two people and wounding 20 -- the first attack targeting foreign tourists in the Egyptian capital in more than seven years.

Separate man charged in Collman case

CROTHERSVILLE, Ind. -- A 10-year-old girl who police say was abducted to keep her quiet about a methamphetamine operation was also sexually molested, but not by the man charged with her murder, authorities said Thursday. Anthony R. Stockelman, 38, of rural Seymour made an initial court appearance Thursday morning after being arrested Wednesday on a felony count of child molesting. Jackson Circuit Judge William E. Vance ordered Stockelman held on $500,000 cash bond at the county jail in Brownstown.

Community Gardens offers rentable plots

Spades and shovels aside, garden specialist Grant Pershing may be the most valuable tool in this garden. Pershing works in the Willie Streeter Community Gardens, an area of rentable plots of land for residents to plant whatever they choose. For $31, Bloomington residents can spend their summers tending to a 10' by 20' plot of land in the gardens, which feature organic or conventional gardening, as well as wheelchair accessible raised beds. Staff members, like Pershing, are also available at the gardens to assist with problems.

Hold on a minute

There are a lot of wack-jobs here in America. There are a lot of people who have a crazy agenda. They will hoot and holler and do anything that is necessary to get on the news and get people to hear about it. When I first heard of the Minuteman Project, I thought these guys were probably more of the same, probably some wacked-out conservatives who hated Mexicans and didn't want them stealin' good ole American jobs.

The eternal legacy

These few weeks hold a very new experience for my generation -- it is the first time we get to witness the death of a pope and the election of a new one. The magnificent funeral rituals seen on TV are quite an impressive experience for anyone who hasn't seen them.

'Time' for smarts

Bloomington literary magazine relocates to Pennslyvania

Town staples earn their notoriety by staying in town. That's how Bathtub Gin became synonymous with Bloomington for many local poets. The nationally distributed biannual literary and art magazine will continue to be synonymous with Bloomington until it moves printing locations to Erie, Penn., in August.

Graffiti artist shows work at Boxcar Books

Graham Colton Band hits Indianapolis

While their last visit to Bloomington was as a headliner at the Bluebird Nightclub, this time around, the Graham Colton Band will have a change of scenery. The five-person pop/rock band out of Dallas is headed to Indianapolis for their show at 8 p.m. today at the Murat Theater, 502 N. New Jersey St. in Indianapolis, and are opening for "American Idol's" Kelly Clarkson.

Vote for Pedro takes IUSA reins

Seniors look to tie up loose ends before graduation in May

With less than one month until graduation, IU seniors are almost finished with their college years. As future alumni begin to celebrate, there are a few loose ends seniors should tie up before leaving Bloomington for good. One of the biggest potential problems for seniors is taking care of parking tickets and changing permanent addresses to receive their diplomas.
