Basketball star inducted into IU Hall of Fame

As he walked into the room, ducking his 6-foot-9 frame under the door with his 19-month-old son Jacob in his arms and his wife Maxine trailing behind him, 35-year-old Alan Henderson knew he was the big man on campus, just as he was 13 years ago when he played for IU.A former IU men’s basketball player with 12 years of NBA experience, Henderson was inducted into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday night.



Islamic Society of North America Affiliates Coordinator Rodwan Saleh leads a prayer during the breaking of the month-long Ramadan fast Tuesday night in the Forest Greenleaf quad. The annual Fast-A-Thon,  which was sponsored by the IU Muslim Student Union, promoted awareness of hunger in the community and reached out to many non-Muslims and members of the community who joined in fasting for the day.

As the sun went down in Bloomington on Tuesday night, about 200 people gathered in the Forest Greenleaf dining room to celebrate the end of the month of Ramadan. Some of them were Muslim – a majority of them were not – but they all participated in Fast-A-Thon and spent the day without food to raise money for the hungry people in Bloomington.


Doctorate student Wolodymyr Smishkewych and his son Ilani Smishkewych-Kosovske participated in the Tashlikh ceremony as a part of the Jewish High Holiday of Rosh Hashanah on Tuesday at the Jordan River. The symbolic tossing of the bread is the "casting off" of ones sins.

Hillel, McNutt provide Jewish students High Holiday meals

For many Jewish students, the meals and services Hillel offers during the High Holidays are a good substitute for their home holiday traditions. Jamie Greenberg, a freshman from Los Angeles, had tears in her eyes when asked what it was like to be away from home during Rosh Hashanah.

The worst thing you can do is nothing at all.That was the message speaker Toby Strout, the executive director of the Middle Way House, delivered about preventing sexual assault at “Take Back the Night” Tuesday at Dunn Meadow, an annual event that focuses on the prevention of sexual assault in the Bloomington community.

Pakistan names new intelligence service head

Pakistan named a new head of its main intelligence service, a change sure to be scrutinized by American officials who have questioned the powerful spy agency’s loyalties in the war on terror.

After losing 2-1 to unranked UC-Santa Barbara, the No. 20 Hoosiers traveled to Evansville on Tuesday to prove they remain of the NCAA’s elite teams. A 3-2 overtime win showed the team, though struggling, hasn’t gone away. IU coach Mike Freitag said IU regrouped well after losing to the Gauchos. “It shouldn’t have been close to that (score).” Freitag said. “We played very well from start to finish. The second annual student video contest asks IU students to express to the world why they love IU. Students must upload their 60-seconds-or-less video to YouTube no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 17.

SoFA Gallery highlights 'One Moment'

By bringing images of moments in time to the School of Fine Arts Gallery, Thomas Robertello, a Jacobs School of Music flute professor and owner/director of Thomas Robertello Gallery, plans to inspire more than fleeting attention during the “One Moment” exhibition scheduled for Oct. 17.

Hoosier Hills Food Bank moving

The Hoosier Hills Food Bank is getting a much-needed upgrade. A new facility, located at 2333 W. Industrial Park Rd., will soon be theirs to call home. The larger and more practical facility opens new doors of opportunity for the establishment that has served much of central Indiana since 1982.
