Crean optimistic about future seasons

Tom Crean insists he will fix IU's basketball program. And one bleak season is not going to deter him. Despite starting his tenure in Bloomington with a couple of dozen losses and the school's fewest wins in more than 90 years, Crean's unwavering optimism has the hopeful Hoosiers pondering better days.

IU women to play in WNIT on Sunday

IU’s NCAA Tournament hopes ended on Monday, when the team did not receive an at-large bid. Now the Hoosiers (19-10) will prepare for a run in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. The team will face either Dayton or Oakland at 2 p.m. Sunday at Assembly Hall.

AIG CEO: employees starting to return bonuses

73 AIG execs receive $1M bonuses

ALBANY, N.Y. – Troubled insurance giant American International Group paid bonuses of $1 million or more to 73 employees, including 11 who no longer work for the company, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday.

Alumnus, former IU trustee dies

Former IU trustee Stephen A. Backer, died Sunday morning after battling a brief illness. Backer was currently serving his second term as the  Carmel Clay School Board President.

Jordan Marquette signs with IU

IU announced March 17 that Jordan Marquette has signed a National Letter of Intent and will play football for the Hoosiers in the fall.

IU sluggers drop game to Northern Iowa 28-17

The IU baseball team played in a game for the record books on Monday. The Hoosiers (6-9) lost 28-17 to the University of Northern Iowa (9-9). Both teams had pitching problem, leading to astronomical numbers from the batters.

IU women will play in WNIT tournament

IU's winning season wasn't enough for an at-large bid to the NCAA women's tournament, but on Monday night the Hoosiers received an automatic bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

The results come as the U.S. government also Monday announced a restructuring of a bailout plan for the troubled insurer, extending $30 billion in additional aid to the company for a total bailout topping $170.

Obama asks Geithner to block AIG bonuses

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama declared Monday that insurance giant American International Group is in financial straits because of "recklessness and greed" and said he intends to stop it from paying out millions in executive bonuses.

IU women learn their fate tonight

The IU women's basketball team will learn their post-season fate at 6 p.m. today when the NCAA selection show airs on ESPN. The Hoosiers will gather in a room at Coaches Bar and Grill for a NCAA Selection Show Party to see if they will receive an at-large bid to the big dance.

Purdue wins 1st Big Ten tourney title

INDIANAPOLIS – The Boilermakers, the preseason favorites in the Big Ten, fell to a No. 3 seed in the conference tournament by losing three of their final four regular season games. They found their groove at Conseco Fieldhouse as Purdue rallied to beat Ohio State 65-61 on Sunday for its first Big Ten tournament title.

Bloomington South rolls to regional championship

Bloomington High School South is a step closer to a state championship. The Class 4A No. 1 Panthers (24-0) won a regional championship on Saturday night in Seymour, Ind. after rolling over Terre Haute South (21-5) 66-39.

Guests try out some of the games just after the doors opened for the grand opening of the permanent Indiana Live Casino on Friday in Shelbyville, Ind. The track's Indiana Live casino opened in a temporary building last June. Interstate 74 was backed up for about three miles as traffic jammed the casino exit.

New $200 million casino opens near Shelbyville

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — Thousands of people lined up for the opening of the new $200 million casino at the Indiana Downs horse track near Shelbyville on Friday, forcing police to turn some visitors away as the facility filled up.
