A broken pipe flooded part of the IU Health Bloomington Hospital building Monday night, with “a number of patients” being relocated within the facility, according to a IU Health Bloomington Facebook post.

The hospital confirmed patients are safe, and visitors are advised to avoid the affected area until further notice.

Updates will be shared as information becomes available through the IU Health Bloomington Facebook page. A patient liaison can be contacted for further questions at 812-918-4032 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

An IU Health spokesperson said in an email to the Indiana Daily Student the hospital is currently assessing the situation.

“Everyone is safe and patients are in patient rooms throughout the hospital,” the spokesperson wrote over email. “We are assessing if any patients will need to be transferred. We don't have confirmed timing, but the leak has been stopped and damage is being assessed. Some areas will reopen shortly.”

At 9:23 a.m. Tuesday, IU Health Bloomington announced in a second Facebook post that visitor restrictions have been lifted and most hospital operations are running normally. Drying and cleanup efforts remain ongoing in the affected area.

Surgical procedures scheduled for Tuesday were canceled. Patients with other appointments were told to proceed as normal unless contacted directly by their provider.
