Concerns with funding for Campus Bus

The Red-Hot ticket was the only one in the IU Student Association election to raise the problem of a lack of funding for the IU Campus Bus Service. Although they naively hinted that an expedient solution was possible, merely bringing up the issue is helpful for awareness.

Messy issue

Nikolas Evans, 21, died April 5 as a result of a head injury sustained during a fist fight. His mother, 42-year-old Missy Evans, requested to harvest the sperm of her deceased son, and after receiving court permission, obtained the sample.

IU-Ball State baseball game canceled

Wednesday, April 15,2009 3:55 p.m.

IU's 3 p.m. game today against Ball State has been canceled due to poor field conditions at the Ball Diamond stadium in the Muncie. The game will not be rescheduled.

Offense will look new, but so will defense

Last season, IU suffered the injury bug so bad, it was almost OK to use it as an excuse for the disappointing 3-9 record. Not this year, though – not with this rigorous schedule that boasts many bowl teams. The Hoosiers’ defense must step up even more than the offense.

IU takes win streak to Muncie

IU looks to build on a four-game win streak at 3 p.m. today in Muncie when they take on Ball State (15-15). The Hoosiers (16-17) are currently tied for first place in the Big Ten with a 6-2 conference record.

Senior Ashley Hobbs and sophomore Sara Olson have combined for three straight gems from the mound for the Hoosiers (7-28, 3-7). With a double header at Illinois (22-12, 5-4) tonight, the pitching duo will look to make it five.

Sophomore Brooke Lichtman stepped into the stairwell of the Herman B Wells library to text her ex-boyfriend. They were fighting through cell phone messages. As she walked down the stairs, eyes locked on the screen, her foot slipped, and she plopped down one, two, three steps. The pain won’t slow her thumbs, she said.

First Nations Center celebrates 2nd anniversary, new location

Interim director Lillian Casillas was spending a quiet Friday evening at the First Nations Educational and Culture Center when, to her surprise, in walked several students who happened to be in the building. Soon  they were asking questions and spending time in the center’s study room.

Australian justice to address ’09 class

Australian Justice Michael Kirby, a longtime human rights advocate and former law school professor, will present this year’s commencement address for the 180th IU graduation ceremony, University officials announced Tuesday.

Senior Jonathan Rollins asks students for ideas about the Night Owl bus program Monday evening in Woodburn Hall. Supporters of the Night Owl program say buses should run until 4 a.m. on the weekends.

Students voice opinions on late-night bus route

Students gathered Monday night in Woodburn Hall to discuss ideas and opinions about a new late-night bus service. The Hoosier Safe Driver Program, the Campus Bus Services and the Bloomington Transit have created a proposal for the Hooiser Night Owl, a safe mode of transportation for students until 4 a.m Thursday through Saturday.

Cramster, Course Hero help students study online

Sophomore Alex Baluna uses social networking Web sites such as Cramster and Course Hero for help with her physics homework. She said they are good Web sites to find solutions to problems and are sometimes better than what she learns in the classroom.

Professor says US hacking no surprise

Cybersecurity expert and director of the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research Fred Cate said it should come as no surprise that foreign spies have hacked the U.S. electrical grid.

Sylvia Nasar speaks about her book "A Beautiful Mind" Tuesday evening in the Indiana Memorial Union Alumni Hall. Nasar shared anecdotes from the life of John Nash, the subject of her book who suffered from schizophrenia for three decades before winning a Nobel Prize in economics.
