Hoosier 2 Hoosier sale recycles furniture, helps environment

The Hoosier 2 Hoosier sale, scheduled for Aug. 20, will sell items collected from dorm, Greek, and off-campus housing move-outs. Twenty-seven tons of furniture, clothing and electronics will be for sale at the Gladstein Fieldhouse, with proceeds going to charity.

For miles we saw nothing but the peculiar pastel-colored homes we’d grown so accustomed to until we arrived at what looked to be a construction site. This unfinished building, consisting of nothing but cement walls and dusty unfinished floors, was the orphanage.

Ohio safety becomes 17th commitment for 2012 football class

A day after bolstering their defensive line of the future, the IU football team received more good news for their defense with the commitment of safety Sebastian Smith on Tuesday. Smith, from Central High School in Pickerington, Ohio, is the Hoosiers’ 17th commit for the class of 2012 and second in as many days.

Bloomington Police Department Chief Michael Diekhoff cleared the officer involved in the Aug. 1 shooting of Richard W. North, who allegedly took his wife hostage on South Rogers Street, of any wrongdoing.

PPIN receives state funds for tax exemptions

Planned Parenthood of Indiana, currently bogged down by legal woes and threats of funding cuts, received a sliver of good news in late July.Neighborhood Assistance Program awarded PPIN $6,000 for the 2011-12 fiscal year, PPIN President and CEO Betty Cockrum said.

New IUSTV reality show ‘Competition Crimson’ searches for contestants

Punt a football through the goal posts at Memorial Stadium, find a hot pink bikini and use it to dress Herman B Wells, purchase a large pizza from Mother Bear’s and eat it in its entirety.The pilot episode of “Competition Crimson” asked three teams of two to fulfill these tasks as they ran across campus in January’s snow.

Remembering the legacy of former IU President John Ryan

When John Ryan announced his retirement from the position of IU president in 1986, the news didn’t make many waves with the student body. Even the staff of IU’s yearbook, the Arbutus, buried the announcement in a roundup of other random news items from that spring. But by the time 81-year-old Ryan died early Saturday at IU Health Bloomington Hospital, his list of admirers was long. His list of accomplishments at IU may have been even longer.
