Abraham, Wagner start strong as IU splits first 4 games

Home runs were not a rare sight in this weekend’s opening tournament for the Hoosiers. Sophomore Jenna Abraham’s two home runs Friday and junior Amanda Wagner’s two home runs Saturday helped lead the Hoosier softball team to split its four opening weekend games.

Panel crowns 2012 Miss IU

Seven undergraduates competed in the Miss IU pageant, a preliminary to the Miss Indiana and Miss America competitions, vying not only for the title but for more than $3,000 in scholarships.



Albert Herring

‘Albert Herring’ opera shows at Buskirk-Chumley Theater

Students performed James Marvel’s interpretation of the classic opera, "Albert Herring," from Feb. 9-12 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater as part of the IU Opera & Ballet 2011-12 season.The Buskirk-Chumley was chosen instead of the more common operatic venue, the Musical Arts Center, because stage director Marvel felt that the smaller space was more ideal.


Pizza X Shooter

Pizza X shooter to appear in court

James D. Finney, 21, is charged with murder and being a felon in possession of a gun. He was arrested in November for killing Adam Sarnecki outside the Pizza X location on South Walnut Street.

Local florist prepares for Valentine's Day

Judy’s Flowers and Gifts, a shop off Third Street on the west side, is usually closed Saturdays. But Judy’s staff, which includes her family members, is working overtime. From the time their Valentine flowers arrived to Tuesday’s last delivery, they will have worked an 80-hour week and completed about 150 bouquets.

After attending a genealogy workshop Saturday that was led by Donna Stokes-Lucas, the Indiana Genealogical Society’s regional district manager, resident Wanda Hosea said she plans to dig deeper into records about her ancestors — as far back as she can go.

McDonald's run turns into arrest, simple battery

Employees of the McDonald's on South Walnut Street called Bloomington police just after midnight Thursday when an intoxicated woman pulled up to the drive thru window to order.

Indiana receives No Child Left Behind waiver

President Barack Obama announced today that Indiana and nine other states will receive a No Child Left Behind waiver. This will give these states the ability to change how they prepare and evaluate students.
