Senior ready to bounce back from knee injury

After sitting out two seasons because of medical redshirts, senior Jamie Gathing was awarded a sixth year of eligibility for the 2004-05 season by the NCAA. The Kankakee, Ill., native will rejoin a Hoosier lineup this year that features 11 returning letter winners from last season.

Winning. A simple philosophy. It's all IU's storied tradition had known since 1970. However, last year's Hoosier team, buoyed by one star, Bracey Wright, for lack of a better phrase, fell flat on its face. Finishing with a 14-15 record, the Hoosiers failed to make the NCAA tournament for the first time in 18 years, snapping the second longest streak of consecutive appearances in the Big Dance.

Davis faces pressure in 5th season as Hoosier head man

Coming into his fifth season as head coach of the men's basketball team, IU coach Mike Davis has his work cut out for him. Not only are some IU fans still bitter at the firing of former coach Bob Knight by former IU and current NCAA president Myles Brand, but last season's 14-15 record and a missed trip to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 18 seasons, just added salt to their wounds.

Team boasts abundance of experience

Coming off a season where the Hoosiers women's basketball team finished 12-17 and had everyone returning, expectations were high -- then an injury occurred. Senior guard/forward Jenny DeMuth tore her anterior cruciate ligament within two hours of the season starting. How the team responds from the injury will be a test IU must pass in order to make it to the NCAA tournament.

Graduation hurts top Big Ten teams

Freshman center brings new height for Hoosiers

From afar, she looks like any other college woman, well proportioned with shoulder-length blonde hair. But when you stand next to her, it all becomes clear. This woman was built to be a NCAA Division I basketball center. Standing at a legitimate 6 feet 7 inches, freshman center Sarah McKay is set to make a splash on the IU women's basketball team.

No sophomore slump for Valentin

With only two active players on the latter half of their college careers, IU coach Kathi Bennett has a corral full of young guns to holster. One sharp shooter Bennett won't have to worry about is sophomore Cyndi Valentin. Valentin, at a mere 19 years old, is actually one of the most battle-tested Hoosiers, logging impressive minutes in all 28 of IU's games. However, minutes aren't the only statistic Valentin feasted upon last season.

Associate head coach teaches commitment

The power of tradition within IU basketball extends far beyond the realm of the men's program. IU women's associate head coach Trish Betthauser is proof enough of that. Five freshmen, five sophomores fuel optimism

Senior Jamie Gathing is out of the lineup due to a season-ending ACL injury, leaving juniors LeeAnn Stephenson and Jenny DeMuth as the only players on the roster who were at IU the last time the Hoosiers made it into the NCAA Tournament just two years ago.

WOMEN'S BIG TEN
