Rocker Townshend cleared of possessing child porn

LONDON -- Rock guitarist Pete Townshend, co-founder of The Who, was cleared Wednesday of possessing pornographic images of children but still was placed on a national register of sex offenders. That registration was part of a formal police caution Townshend received for accessing a Web site containing images of child abuse.

Bloomington has been chosen to be the focus of Indigo Custom Publishing's third addition to its City Sketchbook Series. The Bloomington Sketchbook will showcase the history, beauty, and traditions of the Bloomington community. The book will be a compilation of paintings of Bloomington landscapes, architecture, famous homes, downtown, parks, local events, festivals, and other scenes unique to the city residents' lifestyles.

It was said of pianist Marvin Chandler, allegedly by his mother, "all you had to do was tell him what you wanted him to play and sing, and he took right off." Chandler attended Bloomington's Banneker School from grade one through eight. All Bloomington's African-American elementary and middle school students were required to attend Banneker from 1916 until 1955, when it became Bloomington's Westside community center.

NEW YORK -- Peter Stone, who won an Oscar, an Emmy and three Tony awards during a career in which he wrote the musicals "1776" and "Titanic" and the film classic "Charade," has died. He was 73.

Step show features local and state teams

Saturday night, 12 of the best collegiate step teams from IU and other colleges across the state will present their 2003 step routines. These teams will be competing at 6 p.m. Saturday in the inaugural Little 5 Stepdown Competition for the title of "Best Step Team in Indiana." "This is a chance for the teams to display their creativity," said junior Jeremy Morris, a Union Board member. Rickey Smiley will be the host for the event. Smiley is a former host of BET's popular comedy showcase "Comic View."

Last weekend about 100 people had the chance to "visit Japan." Bloomington resident Molly Atkins Jeon and her teacher Baisho Matsumoto performed 16th century Japanese folk music as part of the musical program "A Visit to Japan" at the John Waldron Arts Center auditorium.
