Lil' Kim charged with perjury

NEW YORK -- Lil' Kim, the rapper known for her outrageously revealing outfits and sexually charged lyrics, was charged Wednesday with lying to a grand jury about a 2001 shootout involving her entourage. The 28-year-old star, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, turned herself in at federal court, where she was to appear before a judge.

Local artwork to showcase I-69 debate

For the past year, photographer Will Claytor has been documenting the Southern Indiana terrain between Indianapolis and Evansville, which will be affected by the I-69 interstate highway construction. From 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow, visitors to Boxcar Books store and Community Center will be able to view the results of the IU senior's project.

The IU Department of Theatre and Drama announced its 2004-2005 season Wednesday with eight shows for the IU and Bloomington communities. Fall semester productions include "Dracula," by Steven Dietz, "Bat Boy, the Musical," by Keythe Farley, "The Cherry Orchard," by Anton Chekhov and "Happy Birthday Wanda June," by Kurt Vonnegut.

Tommy Hilfiger visits Indianapolis and signs photos. Tommy Hilfiger goes to California, and a runway is built, the stars came out and it looked like a good time. I must admit, saying the Midwesterners are with it is one thing, but where is our party? When they said progress is slow, they meant it. The fashion gods are wearing half smiles, not a full grin. Bloomington is moving into the future, but the progress seems to come only with the force of a Mac truck.

Union Board unveils Canvas

With brightly colored student artwork and soulful student, faculty and staff writing, the spring semester issue of Canvas, Union Board's creative arts magazine, made its debut as an insert in Tuesday's edition of the Indiana Daily Student. Earlier this semester, Union Board's "Celebrate the Arts" Committee made a request for submission of student artwork, poetry, short stories and essays. Campus-wide, students sent their work in the hopes it would be selected for publication.

Rare second edition of 'Hamlet' to be auctioned off

BOSTON -- A rare edition of William Shakespeare's "Hamlet" could fetch much more than $1 million when it is auctioned at Christie's in New York. The nearly 400-year-old book is one of 19 copies of the 1611 printing known to exist and is the only one remaining in private hands. It was owned by Mary Hyde, Viscountess Eccles, a renowned New Jersey book collector and English literature scholar best known for her extensive Samuel Johnson collection, now at the Houghton Library at Harvard University.

IU Art Museum, SoFA Gallery home to master's students

Two years and countless tubes of paint, pieces of clay and rolls of film later, the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts is saying farewell to another group of masters of fine arts students. For these students, their years at IU culminate with an exhibition of their work at the IU Art Museum or School of Fine Arts Gallery.

Dance company celebrates 30th year

The African American Dance Company will have its 30th annual concert this weekend. The dances in the show will tell the history of African Americans, starting from when they were brought over in the slave ships. The show will include Afro-Caribbean dances, jazz, ballet and tap among other dances from the African Diaspora.

Opera season to close with 'Peter Grimes'

The IU Opera Theater will close its 2003-2004 season this weekend with a performance by the English opera "Peter Grimes." The opera, composed by Benjamin Britten, marked a new direction for English opera.

IU dance company delights crowds

The African American Dance Company celebrated its 30th year of performances with two packed shows this weekend. The company represented the African diaspora in the United States and throughout the world with a mix of historical and contemporary dance styles.

Newest BPP show ready to shock audiences

For the Bloomington Playwrights Project, producing tales of morbidity and strangeness is a good way to get college students involved in theater. For years, the South Washington Street theater has produced shows that have entertained the Bloomington community, but lately the company has tried something new to please a larger crowd. The Dark Alley series, which is a series of late-night plays shown at 11 p.m., is the BPP's invitation to a more adult world of entertainment. Often sexual, the Dark Alley series features plays written by experimental playwrights and targeted toward younger, more adventure-seeking audiences.

A martini -- it is the millionaire's beer. The potent drink is crystal clear in color, often with a plump green olive lying at the bottom of the wide-brim stemmed glass. Christine Baranski's wealthy character Maryann Thorpe from the 1995 sitcom "Cybill" was never seen without one. Megan Mullally's character of Karen Walker on "Will and Grace" slurps them down like water.

'Your Art Here' sponsors fundraiser The 'Your Art Here' project will sponsor a benefit show and art auction for the National Youth Art Month project of 2004: Billboard Generation II. The benefit show and art auction will be held at 9 p.m. Saturday at Second Story, located at 201 S. College Ave. Musical performers will include TV Mike, Cheer Up Charlie, Secret Girl, The Coke Dares and more.

Jazz treasure to visit IU

Herbie Hancock, one of the greatest composers in jazz history, brings an acoustic band tonight to the IU Auditorium for his first-ever concert in Bloomington. Hancock, a pianist, has recorded some of the most memorable songs in jazz history, including "Canteloupe Island," "Watermelon Man" and "Chameleon."

Hilfiger dresses Indy in new clothing collection

Tommy Hilfiger, a designer known for his stylish casual wear, is growing up and bringing his clothing with him. Hilfiger greeted fans Friday at the Castleton Square Mall in Indianapolis to introduce his new upscale clothing line, H Hilfiger. The new collection came out of a need for a luxurious line that catered to adults and to boost declining sales in his mens' line, Hilfiger said.
