For the month of November, two Indiana Daily Student reporters will each be limited to wearing only six items of clothing as they take part in the Six Items or Less experiment. They are now starting their second week of the challenge.

Members of JMuse find family in theater

On Tuesday, a group of actors and actresses gazed at their reflections in the floor-length mirror in front of them. Spontaneous bursts of singing interrupted the floor stretches they did in preparation for that evening’s rehearsal. This group of students formed the cast of “Identify Me,” the latest production from student group JMuse Productionz.   The show premieres at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Willkie Auditorium and is free to the public.

Originally from Sparta, Mich., Molly Grettenberger applied to Michigan State, University of Michigan and Arizona State before choosing IU. She wasn’t looking for a business degree from the Kelley School or a biology degree to buffer her pre-med path, but for a school to foster her musical talents.

Q&A with local indie folk artist Taylor Campi of the Best Friends

Taylor Campi, an IU junior and the band’s guitarist and vocalist, recalled the scene as her favorite band memory.She discussed with the IDS her solo and group work, from a song about stolen cats to her songwriting process. She will perform a solo set at 9 p.m. Saturday at The Bishop with Eric Ayotte and Anna Vogelzang. Admission is $5.




Nutella Fest

Nutella Fest serves up musical diversity

For 12 hours Saturday, the Collins LLC Coffehouse was filled with music and chocolate-hazelnut spread. This year’s Nutella Fest, however, was about more than just appreciating the sweet treats and tunes.

Bloomington’s proximity to Indianapolis, St. Louis, Chicago and other large Midwestern cities makes it a great place to start a road trip. While I’m not sure how safe it is for me to drive a car in Italy, I do know trains are a convenient for weekend getaways. (Don’t think I was above talking in a British accent before being silenced by my colleagues. Harry Potter anyone?)

City seeks musicians for summer music series

For more than 25 years, the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department has coordinated the Summer Performing Arts Series to showcase local talent. The department will continue the tradition for summer 2012 and is seeking musicians and bands to participate in the summer series, which will take place May through September in city parks.

Q&A with War on Drugs' Adam Granduciel

The War on Drugs have released four records since being on Bloomington’s Secretly Canadian label for the past four years.Tonight, the Philadelphia foursome will take the stage at The Bishop with fellow East Coasters Purling Hiss and Carter Tanton. Frontman Adam Granduciel recently spoke with the IDS about the positive reception of “Slave Ambient,”  and the evolution of their sound and “Law and Order.”

Latin American Music Center celebrates 50 years

IU’s campus has been home to Latin American music for 50 years and has one of the largest collections of this genre of music in the country. From Oct. 19 to 23, members of the Latin American Music Center and Latin American music community worldwide came to IU to celebrate the anniversary.

Students connect through Jewish singing contest

The competition, similar to “American Idol,” brings 30 Jewish singers to Israel to compete and train with popular Israeli musicians. While abroad in Israel last year, Eitan Kantor’s talent brought him to the finals of “Hallelujah,” an international singing contest.
