Saxophonist has no need to toot her own horn

IU doctoral student Stacy Wilson's office is indistinct. Only posters of saxophonists lining the walls and a CD player on a table distinguish it from any of the music practice rooms on campus. After hearing the melodious strains of Wilson's alto saxophone emerge from this room, however, one realizes that this office is not a place of mediocrity -- it's a hub of greatness.

James Brown's death sparks emotion from campus groups

On Christmas Day, people all over the world mourned the death of entertainer James Brown. "The Godfather of Soul" died at 73 of congestive heart failure after being hospitalized with pneumonia in Atlanta. He left behind five decades' worth of soul and funk, and his death occurred just three months after his September performance at the IU Auditorium.

But I mean "whoring" in a respectable way -- think less of the stiletto boot-sporting streetwalker type and more of the Chanel-sporting "lady of the night" type. But everyone knows a ho ain't complete without her pimp. In this case H&M and Target are the backers behind this slutty endeavor. And now they're rolling on 20-inch rims (big pimpin', spending G's).

Making it work: Program adjusts to increased interest

Fabric surrounds Justin Stutzman. A fifth-year senior, Stutzman is one of six students in IU's individualized major program in fashion design. The runway show for his senior line isn't until March 24, but he works tirelessly, as if it's tomorrow. It's hard to succeed in the fashion industry, he says, and with a recent flood of "wannabe" designers applying to fashion schools, including IU, it's only going to get harder.

Boxcar art show breaks down barriers, stereotypes

The arts date back to the beginning of time and will continue to thrive as long as people have a desire to create and express.

Children's choirs to sing at museum

The IU Art Museum will celebrate the holidays with Bloomington's St. Charles Catholic School fourth- and fifth-grade choirs. The Holiday Concert and Open House will be from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 17, with the choir performing at 2 p.m. The St. Charles school choirs will perform under the direction of Sandra Freund and Kathy Gorr. The choirs will present a program of holiday carols featuring hand chimes, according to an IU Art Museum press release. Light refreshments will be available after the concert, with a gallery tour to follow. Nan Brewer, the Lucienne M. Glaubinger Curator of Works on Paper, will lead the tour of toy-related imagery in the first floor Gallery of Art of the Western World.

But now, IU professor Edward Castronova is attempting to make Shakespeare more relatable: He's digitized the Bard's works and created an interactive Shakespearean world inside of a computer.
