IU womens basketball opens exhibition season

Coming off a 19-win season and a third-round appearance in the women’s postseason NIT, the IU women’s basketball team will return to the court for its first exhibition game of the season against the Hoosier Lady Stars on Saturday at Assembly Hall.

Heart of a Lyon

While on a recruiting trip in 2004, IU women’s soccer coach Mick Lyon went for a run through the hills of England, his native country. He said he felt fine, but the next day he could hardly walk. Lyon hid the odd feelings in his legs for a month before seeking medical help. Soon after, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease that affects the nervous system. What made Lyon’s case of MS atypical was that two years earlier his wife had been diagnosed with the same disease. “That’s extremely unusual,” said Dr. David Mattson, director for the IU School of Medicine’s Neuroimmunology/Multiple Sclerosis Program. “Occasionally people will meet because of their MS and get married, but I’ve never had a situation like that.”

Hoosiers defeat Kentucky

In the second to last game of the regular season, the IU men’s soccer team showed the Kentucky Wildcats just how dangerous it is. Riding high on a three-game win streak – including wins in five of their last six games – the Hoosiers defeated the Wildcats with a score of 4-0 in Lexington on Wednesday night.

Assistant coach to receive $66,000 in severance pay

IU places 6th in final fall tournament

The 19th-ranked IU men’s golf team closed out the final 18 holes of the UNCG Bridgestone Classic in Greensboro, N.C. with their best round of the 15-team tournament to finish in a tie for sixth.

IU to compete in Western Michigan Duals this weekend

In its last tournament of the fall season, the IU women’s tennis team will compete at the Western Michigan Duals this weekend. IU coach Lin Loring said other teams competing in the tournament, including Western Michigan, Wichita State, Yale and Depaul, have high-ranked players that should make the top brackets interesting to watch. He also said IU’s depth will help the team in the lower brackets. As in previous tournaments, Loring said the focus will be on doubles pairings.

Senderoff's severance includes $46,000 compensation

Former assistant IU men’s basketball coach Rob Senderoff will receive $46,000 in compensation per the terms of his resignation, according to Senderoff’s severance agreement with the University, obtained by the Indiana Daily Student today pursuant to an Indiana Open Records request.
