Modern dance more than exercise

·

Associate Professor Gwendolyn Hamm's students listened attentively from their blue mats as she illustrated an effective breathing technique. "Think about the breath going from the top of the head down to your sternum. Inhale through your nose," Hamm said. Hamm teaches the Advanced Modern Dance class twice a week at the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. Hamm said modern dance is a rising genre of dance that emphasizes fluidity of movement and abstract choreography.

Young actors take audience to 'a better place'

·

Next door to the Indianapolis Museum of Art lies the Civic Theatre where the Young Adult Summer Musical's program is set to perform The Secret Garden. Parents and friends take the stroll through the parking lot, past a picturesque modern fountain and a sculpture of "love" to enter the theatre. The audience has a feel of a community production, comprised mostly of relatives and local supporters. Yet, the venue lends an air of professionalism, as the young performers prepare themselves for the daunting task of putting together this play of heavy themes.

·

Office of the Bursar needs to take greater steps toward privacy I am one of the graduate students whose Social Security numbers was stolen last year because of poor security in the Bursar's Office. It came as a shock when I went to pay my tuition this semester by check and was asked to print my Social Security number on my check. When I got it back, there was my number printed again on the back of the check by the bursar.

Cube's 'Darkness' insane

·

The Gamecube is unfortunately saddled with the image of being a "kiddies console." Hoosiers shut down Spartans early

·

Leading up to last night's game, Coach Mike Davis praised Tom Izzo as the best coach in the country, mainly because of the way Izzo can get his No.25 Spartans to be more aggressive than anybody on the boards and defensively. But by the time there were a few minutes left in the game Tuesday night, Izzo could only run his hands through his hair, lean back in his chair and look up to the top of Assembly Hall. Another Michigan State turnover had led to another three-pointer, this one by Dane Fife to give the Hoosiers an 81-58 lead with just 2:33 left.
