An embattled Senate incumbent in Rhode Island and an open House seat in Arizona gave Republican primary voters a choice Tuesday between moderates and conservatives, as both parties watched the races with eyes on the larger fight for control of Congress.

Militants storm U.S. Embassy in Syria; no Americans hurt

DAMASCUS, Syria -- Islamic militants tried to storm the U.S. Embassy on Tuesday using automatic rifles, hand grenades and a van rigged with explosives, the Syrian government said. Four people were killed in the brazen attack, including three of the assailants, but no Americans were hurt.

Debate over gay marriage tonight

Tonight, the Union Board will tackle one of the country's most controversial issues: gay marriage. The board's debates and issues committee has brought a gay rights activist and a consultant for President Bush to campus to discuss the issue in "Gay Marriage: A Civil Debate" at 7 p.m. in Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union.

Last week, Katie Couric made her debut on CBS Evening News as the first female solo news anchor. Before she even made her first broadcast, word had already come out about her promo photo, which had been altered to make her look significantly thinner. Probably not the best way to begin reporting the "news," especially when coming from "The Today Show," a program focused mostly on entertainment issues.

PHILADELPHIA -- Early next year, students at the University of Pennsylvania will have the option to switch from the University of Pennsylvania's traditional e-mail service to something that looks more like Gmail or Microsoft's Windows Live Mail.

New podcast options won't replace classes

Though University Information Technology Services has brought podcasts to IU students and faculty, going to class will not become a thing of the past. Not all classes will use them, and they are not meant to supplant lectures, said Podcast Project Manager Martin Wagner and several professors.

Union Plus meal point plan changes

For years, many students, faculty and staff have taken advantage of the Indiana Memorial Union's Union Plus meal plan, which used to offer a 15 percent discount on food purchases. But after a recent decline in the program's use, IMU officials have lowered the rate to a 5 percent discount.
