Main Squeeze to play for returning students

As IU students head back to town or are already unpacking, parties are being planned, bar specials are being announced and bands are preparing to entertain. The Main Squeeze, the headliner for Friday’s welcome back concert at the Bluebird Nightclub, is one of them. The funk/rock band is scheduled to play at midnight.

The notion of market failure is often labeled by critics of unfettered capitalism as a devastating example of the folly of leaving people free to trade with each other with no oversight from the state.

Letter to the editor: nuke atomic energy

Writing in the August 12 issue of the IDS, columnist Henry Alderfer makes a case for expanded use in the United States of nuclear energy. His main point is that nuclear plants do not emit greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. However, Alderfer fails to mention a number of problems with nuclear energy, which, in my opinion, make using it unwise.

Changing the discussion

The discourse over these events has turned Islam into a four-letter word here in the U.S. This is a world that is hyper-globalized, so it is amazing that we still cower in our boots about a religion that shares roots with our own Judeo-Christian heritage. Instead of reaching out to our neighbors in humanity, we have neglected them in their time of need, using their religion of peace as a slur against them.
